Nice post, Ken.
Advertising on the internet is fairly complicated, and it seems that no one outside the industry has much of a grasp on it at all. A recent controversy on the popular social bookmarking site, Digg.com, highlights the issue.
Digg, like most other websites hoping to monetize their traffic somehow, has signed up with various ad networks. This has caused quite an uproar within the community (one notable example being the audio-playing "free iPod" advertisements everyone loves to hate: http://www.digg.com/odd_stuff/
I_...I_d_see_the_day ), and the response from Digg staff (http://blog.digg.com/?p=102) is predictable.
Controlling which ad is shown where is not wholly the responsibility of the webmaster or even the advertiser. The ad networks have the extremely difficult task of trying to balance the webmaster's click rate with an advertiser's ROI demands and the hope of delivering the right ad to the right place at the right time.
On top of all this confusion is the unfair, seemingly knee-jerk (and oddly undocumented) association by Fortinet of Zango and malicious intent.
All this for showing an ad.

Zango-
Why don't you sue anyone and everyone who slandered/libeled you?" These so-called 'reporters' probably cost you thousands, if not hundreds of thousands in revenue directly, and perhaps much more than that in the whole grand scheme of things. You would win. You would win big. And once you do win, irresponsible 'journalists' would think twice before labeling you as anything but what you are, and any other legitimate advertising companies for that matter.
