After listening: How amazingly accurate the descriptions are. When we take our drives to the Middle Of Nowhere (can I trademark that term?) that is what we are there for, we are there to observe the wild untamed parts, the real untouched Florida. It is a strange feeling to know that that part is only three blocks away from here really. I feel like if we really want to know anything at all about where we are in relationship to the rest of the world we have to go out there and look at it. Everything within "civilization" is so contrived, almost to a sickening twisted point. When we first moved here that was a fantastic bonus. It was kind of like the beginning of Wizard of Oz, where everything goes from black and white to vibrant color. It felt overwhelmingly luxurious. At times it feels very plastic, like the fake grass and shrubs at Disney world. I am continually amazed at seeing the landscaping crews outside of our apartment complex literally daily keeping everything perfect. Flawless. I am still trying to get comfortable with that. What is even more strange is to be driving in the middle of the Everglades looking at alligators and birds and dragonflies the size of your head and happen upon a brand new house built up on a mound with drainage ditch all the way around it. The last names on the mailbox usually say Billie. You wonder how that got there, like it just doesn't belong.
