According to the bio info I have read -- and which I'm sure you also have read -- he was fathered by a Muslim and brought up in his early years by a "lapsed-Muslim stepfather. He also attended some madrasses. From what I have been told, once a Muslim always a Muslim: a Muslim cannot leave Islam; if he does he becomes an apostate and is subject to the death penalty.
As I said before, in our present environment, just these questions alone are enough for me to rule him off my list.
