Maybe they're genetically modified pigs, their DNA modified to eliminate whatever it is that G-d found objectionable about swine in the first place. That's always a possibility.

Actually there was a serious discussion about capibara (some Brasilian giant water guinea pig) that has some, or all, of the qualities of a kosher animal. Or so I understand. I really do not remember the details, and eventually the whole issue fizzled out, after the Chief Rabbi said "nyet".
Myself, I can put forward a vigorous defence of swine, esp. in the light of chicken being exterminated at an alarming rate...

Snoopy:
I'm not an expert, but if rabbit meat doesn't pass kashruth, how could guinea pig meat (which is a rodent, not porcine)?

Some people claimed that the there was a type of "pig" that appeared to "chew its cud". That turned out to be a "rural legend". IIRC though the animal was supposed to be from Indonesia rather than Brazil.

As I said before, ever try the ribs at Baroods? In the Midrachov. Probably imported from this very store.

Well, but my understanding was that they are kinda... er... vegetarian ones.
Anyway, I give up. My knowledge of flora and fauna is limited to the confines of the plate put before me at meal times...

Historically locust was considered kosher, at least for the Eastern Jewry. Last year when the locust arrived to southern parts of Israel, thankfully in small doses, the issue was raised again. This time the chief rabbi declared that locust is forbidden.
