As far as rumors go, Shlemazl, you are right.
Everyone knew about his Jewish father, but the final disclosure is fairly recent, as the article tells.

This is a bit reminiscent of the Bobby Fischer story, isn't it? For bloggers to young to remember the brilliant, but very mentally unstable chess champion, long known for his anti-semitism, hated his absent [Jewish] father too.
