Gravatar Well, at least he's right about the general quality of Saudi Arabia, Iran, et al...
Just back-asswards about the solution.

Great pictures.

Gravatar People like Hickey are such hypocrites ! Israel is a bastion of sanity and wisdom in an Arab sea of ignorance !

Gravatar one good thing to come out of the proposed boycotts in the UK is the significant backlash against them. this has come not just from the usual suspects (board of deputies etc), but from major journalists, the BBC and scathing leaders in most/all newspapers. also, the jewish community has become more organised (though one could argue too little, too late).

Gravatar I guess that's one reason why the Brits are no longer a super power.

Gravatar Here's a thought -- Hickey says one must be selective in applying boycotts with an eye towards using them against valued targets, so he argues for an academic boycott of Israel presumably because Israel values its academics (hey, just ask Israeli university presidents and their striking students about government support, but that's another story). Hmmmm -- I wonder what sorts of anti-Israel boycotts Hickey would *not* support because they would *not* be directed at targets perceived as valuable? Let's see -- oh yes, since unlike education and scholarship, there is no great tradition of Jewish football, surely it would be pointless to boycott Israel's national football team since nobody would care -- but wait, the Brits are trying to do that too -- oh, maybe they're just afraid they're going to lose to us. Let's try another one...uh, oh -- no point in boycotting Israeli lumberjacks, elephant trainers, or aluminum-siding salesmen. But everything else is OK.

Hickey, Hickey -- what an asshole!!!

Gravatar Good of you to mention Israeli football, stinky, since I myself boycott it. I think that if the whole world would boycott this grave embarrassment, we'll be much better off

Gravatar "Let's take a look at the foot-in-mouth outbreak in the British academic circles."

Excellent sentence and unfortunately so very true. Made me laugh.

Gravatar In fact, when you look closely at Mr Hickey, his belonging to the academic circles is fairly marginal. The man is much more of a political animal than an academic. But formally, of course...
