At first I thought of totem for this week theme but I couldn't find a totem for my photography so last minute changed my object. That is really nice.

hey, I'm just across the water from Victoria -- and yes, totem poles have a long history here on the west coast -- and it looks like it's standing beside a traditional longhouse. Did you know the Canadian government actually outlawed the aboriginal potlatch which is a ceremony that had been practiced for thousands of years. Thankfully, some of the native elders are restoring these ceremonies and teaching the meaning of them to the younger generations. Phew, hope that didn't sound too didactic!

I didn't think of totem poles. A wonderful wooden art form. They can be awfully difficult to photograph, though.
