I'm not bothered by the comparison. The point is that in death, Rachel Corrie became some sort pop-culture martyred saint. In fact she was a dupe motivated by hate who was glamorized by the likes of Alan Rickman.
Those who canonized her were not celebrating peaceful coexistence as they might boast to themselves. They were celebrating hatred and terror.
If they were honest they'd be celebrating the lives of people like Carlos Chavez. The comparison isn't meant to demean Mr. Chavez, but Rachel Corrie's self-congratulatory boosters.
Ami's column is a wonderful tribute to Carlos Chavez and all the other foreign volunteers who come to Israel to help an ebattled democracy at considerable risk to themsevles. Carlos Chavez will be remembered as a hero of freedom long after the hatemongering, terrorist supporting Rachel Corries and her backers have joined the other totaltarian apologists on the ash heap of history.
Recall there was a list of the "other Rachels", those that had been murdered along with hundreds of other Israelis by the terrorists protected by Rachel Corrie and her fellow members of the so-called International Solidarity Movement (ISM).
It would be good to publicize that list as well.
Note: Israel has made a good start taking care of Gaza Strip. Keep up the fine work, IDF.

The analogy in fact brings out the difference between the cultures into strong relief:
While Rachel corrie was killed accidentally while trying to prevent an Israeli bulldozer from uncovering weapons in the ground meant to be used in terrorist attacks against innocents, Carlos was deliberately and maliciously targeted by a sniper while he was working the soil, to fertilize and to make things grow.

And that's coming from someone who fled the Soviet Union. Point being Socialism as a means of government always ends up in tyranny; individual Socialists are often-times well-meaning, hard-working individuals. Live and learn, Teddy!
