Gravatar Happy Chanukah! Also, Happy Hannukah!

Gravatar Thanks, Liz. I am not sure what kind of holiday you care for, so let's say a seasonal greeting for now.

Gravatar "Eight days a week, he's so unique." Harrumph. You are obviously part of the problem Aish.com was recently complaining about.

Gravatar You mean that "Hijacking Chanukah" stuff? Don't know, I am not especially adept in hijacking - besides our kids loved Chanukah too much, so it was all rather traditional...

Gravatar Just kidding. They get a little extreme sometimes, Aish. My son adores Hanukkah. He's all fired up for tonight.

Gravatar Happy Chanukah to all. Thanks for the post and video, Snoopy.

(Will try and comment further on this subject tommorrow)

Gravatar Happy Hannukah from your friend Grams
I was reading about some of the food and it sound pretty good!!

Gravatar Thanks, David, and I shall wait for the real Christmas to get closer - cannot abide these "seasonal greetings", to tell the truth.

Gravatar Grams, many thanks. Re the food - be careful with the "sufganiot" - Hanukkah Dough Balls, they are pretty lethal when consumed in quantities

Gravatar Daniel Pearl's parents are to be honored at the White House Chanukah reception on Dec. 10th. See http://www.jita.org

Gravatar White House. Wow. Thanks for the update, David!

Gravatar You are welcome, Snoopy.
Correct web address is
http://jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/brea...ing/ 105665.html

I apologize for the earlier mistake. Just read the address wrong. If there is any problem with the link, just google "Pearl Family Menorah" and click on 1st entry.

Snoopy: "White House, Wow"
My words exactly, Snoopy.
It is awe inspiring the way Daniel Pearl's Family & Friends have worked to honor his memory and seeing to it that his life was not in vain. In doing so they have robbed his murders of their triumph and instead have turned their beloved Daniel's death into a rallying point for all who oppose the fanatics and bigots that killed him.

Gravatar That previous anonymous posting was mine. Sorry, have switched PCs and did not realize had to type address on new computer.

Gravatar Got it now, thanks, David.

Gravatar The Pearl Family Menorah that will be lighted at the White House on Monday evening at 5:30PM originally belonged to Professor Pearl's grand-parents, Chaim & Rosa Pearl who brought with them when they made aliyah from Poland to what was then Palestine in 1924 and were among the founders of the town of Bnai-Brak. This is whom Daniel Pearl referred to in his death video: "Back in the town of Bnai-Brak there is a street named after my great-grandfather, Chaim Pearl who is one of the founders of the town."

My eyes have seen the Glory!

Gravatar Apologize for using the term "his (Daniel's) death video"
Should have said "just before he was cruely murdered".

Gravatar "Washington - President Bush recognized Hanukkah on Monday by remembering the kidnapping and murder in 2002 of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl at the hands of Islamic militants in Pakistan.
'His only crime was being a Jewish-American_ something Daniel Pearl would never deny,' Bush said ....
Pearl's father, Judea, struck a match and he and the reporter's mother, Ruth, lighted candles on a family menorah. Daniel Pearl's great-grandfather, Chayim Pearl, brought it with him when he moved from Poland to Israel in 1924. The menorah will stay at the White House through Tuesday, the last day of Hanukkah.
'In his final moments, Daniel told his captors about a street in Israel named for his great-grandfather. He looked into their camera and he said, 'My father is Jewish, My mother is Jewish and I'm Jewish'. Bush said, 'These words have become a source of inspiration for Americans of all faiths. They show the courage of a man who refused to bow before terror_ and the strength of a spirit that could not be broken.'"

See http://www.foxnews.com/wires/ 200...anukkah,00.html for the whole moving story.

Gravatar This happened 5 years ago in November 2002 when Daniel Pearl was honored posthumosly with the Elijah Lovejoy Award, which is given each year to an American journalist who display courage in pursuit of truth. Daniel's sister, Tamara accepted the award.
Two eloquent stories about this are at http://www.centralmaine.com/ news...4lovejoy_.shtml & http://www.colby.edu/colby.mag/i.../ 2lovejoy.shtml
