The poor boy used to date the egregious India Knight, a diet-peddling dimwit who thinks Muslims are the New Jews (c) and the Hasidim won't let a gentile's shadow fall on them. Some of it must have worn off. She crossed Julie Burchill once. It was a pleasure to behold (see the link on Stephen Pollard's old site):

NGB - it was delicious indeed, thanks!
Stinky - I suspect that this term comes from an overheating brain, and it's not overheated by global warming, I am afraid

If the sunspots keep staying away, we could become known as the cold-toed New Ice Age generation. March on...

The real truth about Gibson is in between the two. His comments certainly deserved to get him smacked, and smacked very hard.
He still has a lot of talent, and as such, the solution to his error is to teach him better, not to shun him utterly -- that will only add to his armor of self-justification.
Further, to shun him utterly will not suppress the perniciously wrong ideas he espoused -- it will only make the case to EVERYONE -- "Never, Ever, publicly admit that you believe in these ideas" -- so instead of getting their wrongness corrected by exposture to light, they are driven into the dark where they can fester like poisonous mushrooms.
Such comments should certainly be unacceptable -- but they should never be so unacceptable that one dare not express them, because that is suppression, which is a particularly ineffective technique for destroying bad memes.

OBH, I can't disagree with anything you said, however I have to make a remark - this post of mine was not about Gibson and his stupid beliefs.
Oh, and about teaching Gibson - I am not sure it's doable. His dad taught him too much, unfortunately.
