What about the smell? Oh yeah, I'm sure that our rats could kick their rats asses!

Except they don't have rats. Ok they probably do but I didnt see any. Their platforms smell cadbury creme, ours like some homeless guys creme. But we've got them on sound- their subway musicians are 1st episode of American Idol laughable; we've got some decent ones.

Gravatar Loved the comments about the comparasions.

There are rats on the undergound but they have a tendancy to remain out side in the open sections of the rail network. Deep level stations mainly have mice present.

The only service that runs fast tube services are the Metropolitan Line north of Baker Street.

If you had purchased your Travelcard after 09:30 you would have found that the price was cheaper because it is clased as off peak.

Gravatar I don't know about the MetroCard but the oysterCard is the ticket of choice for londoners. In fact the paper ones frankly pount tourists out

I disagree on the exit gates, they are normally in on the right. As for jumping over, Culturally we don't normally if someone wants to get through free they push you to get through, or more likely try and use a child ticket (but not anymore on Oyster!

No Ornate stations? The older you go the more Ornate, although the modernisation is turning the tiles into aluminium and the new Jubilee line extension stations are awesomely designed.

Interestingly the grid was proposed after the Fire of London and was turned down (see Charles Wren for more info)

There are nearly different trains on each line, largely based on the tunnel size. The old "cut and cover" lines are bigger as the tunnels are bigger. You can find more info on the rolling dtock here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tube/using...hnical/rolling/ .

The newer trains have digital displays in them, and the older ones are being revamped to having new displays. Check out the new proposed Victoria Line trains, like the nice PAris ones (though without the rubber wheels

I agree that announcments are not always made and I wish that this was sorted out, but I think as the new rolling stock comes online it'l change.

As for watch your fingers "Please stand well behind the yellow line".

I'd happily geek you out more with info on the tube if you like (disclaimer I work at Tube Lines )

One day I might come and do the same on the NYC system, if only I could afford it!

Gravatar Re ticketing, yes we do have a stronger plastic ticket it's called an Oyster Card, it also offers the user cheaper fares.

Londonis a much older city to the Big Apple, hens we dont have a grid system, which I would find really confusing.

Also, our Underground system is in places 140 years old.

And yes we do have homeless people, but we kicjk them out the system every night. We also have some damn huge rats and our own breed of mozzies too! See you next time your riding the tube.

So I think London 1 NYC NIL

Gravatar Thanks for the comments.. I guess it's hard not to be biased towards your home. Check out www.nycsubway.org for comprehensive pics & info on New York's system. Not all NYC trains have the electronic displays (and accompanying electronic announcements) yet. The metrocard is made of flexible plastic similar to a photograph. Our system just turned 100.
