It was (is -- ?) pretty much a standardized test with all important questions, like -- Who has the right of way at an unmarked intersection? (there is only one correct answer -- i.e., the vehicle on the right) // a person could only miss so many which would in turn result in denial of driving priviledges. BUT then there was also a component test to determine one's familarilty with the MANY road signs to be encountered driving in Europe (i.e., autobahn signs, speed limit signs, etc.) -- one of which happened to be a STOP SIGN.
It didn't matter which signs you missed (out of the 100 or so questioned) just as long as you didn't miss more than a certain predetermined number, as in not more than three (or four); I forget exactly how many now.
Didn't matter if STOP SIGN was among those missed -- as long as one didn't exceed (??) the predetermined number.
Can you imagine how absolutely dangerous that could make it for everybody // passing the test // and not knowing that HALT means STOP.

The other day, at our local bookstore, we passed a book. And then doubled back.
The book is titled Who Owns America?: A Declaration of Independence. Sounded like it was written by people we should know. But on further investigation, we recognized none of the names on the cover. Who Owns America? was written by 21 "conservative" decentralists. And it was first published in 1936. Re-released this year, with a new introduction by Seton Hall University History Professor Edward S. Shapiro, Who Owns America? (ISI Books, Wilmington, Delaware, 1999), is highly critical of large corporate institutions that controlled the political economy in 1930s America. Its publisher believes the book is as relevant today as the day it was published. Edited by Pulitizer Prize winning Louisville Courier-Journal columnist Herbert Agar and southern poet Allen Tate, Who Owns America? puts forth the type of scathing critique that you just can't find in today's political debates. Like today's corporatist conservatives -- George Will, James Glassman and Charles Krauthammer -- the conservatives who wrote Who Owns America? believed that the specter of big government threatened individual freedom and the ideal America. But unlike the corporatists of today, Agar, Tate and their colleagues understood that public authority was the only antidote to the excesses of big corporate power. Agar, Tate and their colleagues argued that to attain the conservative goal of less government, you'd first have to limit the size and power of the large corporate institutions that were roaming the land.
Typical of the 1930s conservatives writing in this volume is the pro-decentralist economist Richard Ransom. "The permanent lease on life which corporations possess tends more and more to concentrate within a few hands the ownership and control of general property," wrote Ransom in a chapter titled Corporate and Individual Persons."The disproportionate distribution of the national wealth is very evidently due in large part to the corporate tendency to mass larger and larger aggregates of ownership which are held together by corporate permanence and corporate inertia. ..." Ransom's solution to the problem of corporate control of the national wealth? Federal chartering of corporations doing interstate business. And what should the states do about excessive corporate power? The states should limit the "profitable business life of the corporations which they charter." And how could the states accomplish this end? "This could perhaps be done by means of heavy selective inheritance taxation on the transfer of corporate shares or assets," Ransom answers. And what would this achieve? "Such a shorter term of corporate life, either accomplished indirectly as suggested here or accomplished by more immediate means, will produce a more direct personal responsibility in corporate managements," Ransom says. Once interstate corporations are federally chartered, Ransom proposes that the personal liability of stockholders should be extended to an amount at least equal to twice the proportionate investment of each stockholder (currently, you can only lose what you put in.) Can you imagine Will or Krauthammer contemplating these thoughts? Lyle Lanier, a professor of psychology at Vanderbilt University, wrote a chapter titled "Big Business in the Property State," in which he observed that "the American people have long recognized the danger to democracy of economic power concentrated in the hands of big corporations."
Lawmakers passed the antitrust laws at the turn of the century, "but these laws have been impotent to stem the rising tide of big business organization," Lanier wrote. Industrial capitalism, Lanier wrote, "has followed a course of development which is both self-destructive and dangerous to democratic institutions." Lanier, like his co-authors, finds hope in a Jeffersonian ideal of small business and small farmers. The publication of this volume today makes George Will, James Glassman and their conservative contemporaries look like empty suits compared those who wrote Who Owns America?. Big corporations still roam the land and still threaten a fragile democracy. But there is no Agar on the right to challenge them. Needless to say, we cannot and do not agree with everything written by these 21 self-proclaimed "conservatives" of the 1930s. But we do agree with the conservative sentiment put forth in the book, as summarized by Agar, that corporate concentration and democracy are at odds. "When democracy goes down before monopoly capitalism," Agar writes, "the result has been a greedy tyranny, preserving all the vices of capitalism and extinguishing its virtues."

my neighbor was an AOL customer, 27 bucks a month for friggin dial up!! it has a front end that doesnt let you see what all is going on and claims to have anti-spyware anti-virus protection, it took me HOURS to scrub all the garbage that was dumped onto his PC. talked him into dropping that DISservice and now his dial up account with another company is only 7 bucks a month.

It will take time for them to collect our data and get it all set up.
Right there in between the "dividing of times and the abomination is when many happenings will be, and I believe this will be the time when Jesus will come as a "thief." Only those (in the area he will come) who have the mark placed on their foreheads by the angel with the ink horn (as per Ezekiel 9) will be spared. The others will be stabbed through and will not be spared, and it will start at the Temple. Plus famine and pestilence and a major confrontation with a foreign invasion at the Northern border will all take their toll.

We are on the verge of something that will be bigger than the Cambrian explosion.
For 3 billion years, individual life-forms were so small they could only be seen with a microscope. Then, in a geological eye-blink, a vast cornucopia of macroscopic life appeared. A similar phase- transition is imminent.
We now possess a set of tools that gives us God-like power. With that power comes God-like moral responsibility. We have, or will soon have: the ability to manipulate our genes at will, access to virtually unlimited free energy and real-time full-spectrum communications abilities. This will allow for the birth of a plethora of communities that will take on the aspects of super- beings. We know these now as governments, cultures, societies, corporations, religions, individuals etc. However, with the new technology, that is about to change.
The new communications tools mean Democracy can be made to function in real-time; creating communal super-brains. The new genetic tools mean some people will begin to manipulate their own genes in order to become immortal super-beings. The unlimited energy supplies will give us super-powers.
Despite efforts by some power-holders to stop this wave of change, it is inevitable. It cannot be stopped, only channeled.
That means it is of the utmost urgency for humanity to gather all its collective wisdom in order to make the change a benevolent one. We will need to fashion a base for this transformation. It must be like a perfect diamond, reflecting from every angle the desires and wishes of all creatures, great and small.
I believe the very core of this diamond can be fashioned out one moral principle of the greatest purity. It is what I call the Sudra principle.
The Sudra were the original aboriginal inhabitants of India. Life is now headed for what is likely to be a billions of years long, and exponentially expanding, period of Yang or plenty. However, we cannot know when hard times or new enemies will come again and thus, we will need to maintain and nurture all the life knowledge gathered in bad times.
With this in mind, let us now consider the principle governing body of our present world. In ancient Babylonia there emerged a proto- brain, ancient and powerful, that evolved for millenia. It was a gathering of the brightest minds, centered around a single uber- mind, who ruled over the masses. In Europe, this type of gathering came to be known as the illuminati. For centuries it functioned in a way that brought civilization to new heights. Most who have studied the total failure of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to respond to the strategic bombardment, by means of hijacked commercial airliners, of the eastern seaboard of the United States on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 have concluded that NORAD was ordered to stand down on that occasion by elements within the National Command Authority on behalf of parties within the Bush Administration who desired the success of the attack for political justification of subsequent US action. A (perhaps) convincing alternative explanation of the Command’s collapse on that day might be found in the facts of its origin. NORAD was established in 1958 to meet the threat of masses of manned intercontinental nuclear-capable bombers, a threat which did not then exist (as the Pentagon then well knew). In fact, such a threat never really came into being, as Premier Khrushchev ordered the defunding of manned bomber programs and the funding of ballistic missile programs largely out of frustration with the Soviet aerospace industry’s inability to develop nuclear-capable manned bombers with true intercontinental range. (Indeed, the whole rationale guiding US actions during the Cuban Missile Crisis was that the MRBMs and IRBMs deployed on Cuban soil gave the Soviets an ability to strike the continental United States which did not preexist that deployment.) It seems that the real reason for NORAD’s original establishment was to create a captive market for some of the more costly products of the Military Industrial Complex, which products, given the largely fictional nature of the threat which served as the Command’s raison d’etre, didn’t really need to work. Such new and untried systems as the McDonnell F-101 Voodoo interceptor, armed with the Hughes AIM-4 Falcon (per Wikipedia: "The missile's combat performance was very poor." [Robert Schunk's note: The Falcon was used in combat by Tactical Air Command (TAC), not NORAD.]) and McDonnell Douglas AIR-2 Genie missiles, and the various Nike anti-aircraft missile systems, pretty much only had to look good in order to justify the Pentagon’s spending on them, as the absence of a genuine threat could be explained away as the result of these systems’ effectiveness as deterrents.
Concomitant with such an arrangement might have been an unspoken but very real code within NORAD’s top echelons that, to prevent any possible demonstration of these weapons’ ineffectiveness by the ultimate test of combat in order to maintain the illusion of defended airspace, any actual threat was to be met with delays, half-measures, and other ruses to avoid having to expose the Command to actual battle. By September 11, 2001, NORAD was fully equipped with such battle-proven (once again, by commands other than NORAD) systems as MIM-104 Patriot, AIM-9 Sidewinder, and AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, as well as McDonnell Douglas F-15 and General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters, but, as an organization’s culture may change more slowly than its equipment, the early Cold War “prime directive” of nonresponse to actual threats may still have been in force.
No one I know of has questioned why President Bush’s presence aboard Air Force One on September 11, 2001, was deemed a convincing explanation for his failure actively to command the Armed Forces of the United States on that day, seeing as the plane is actually the Commander-in-Chief’s assigned billet in the event the nation is taken under strategic bombardment, as we were on that day. The plane is equipped with command, control, and communications gear superior to that found at the White House, and is further equipped for in-flight refueling to keep it aloft for days while the situation below is ascertained. When Vice President Cheney was in the White House bunker making decisions that are the proper prerogative of the President, he needed better justification than the fact that the President was away at his proper command post at the time. (Apparently, it never dawned upon our titular President that he could, in fact, effectively command from the aircraft, and no one in the know deemed it necessary to enlighten him on that point.) But what really kills me is the complete failure of the mainstream press to point that out.

Senator Mitch McConnell (Republican from Kentucky -- big shot leader) was speaking and talking his talk about Iraq, saying the Democrats lost the vote by failing to achieve 60 on the Iraq Bill -- to bring our troops home. They had the majority but lacked the necessary 60 by only 7 or 8 votes. Saying 67 would have made it imp[ossible for Bush to veto. Close but not close enough.
I could have sworn that McConnells Iraq rant was interrupted by the word 'MURDERER!'

This is something I actually agree with. I agree with knowing how tax money is spent, and I don't like the idea of my tax money funding welfare abusers getting high, abusing children, or getting high around their children, and I know there's a lot of that going on.
I don't believe in long term welfare at all. If someone wants to fund the poor that's fine, but don't make our government take the money from me for it.

Finally, I sent out an e-alert informing the nation and media that the Children's Safety Act was held back for one reason: Kennedy wanted his pro-homosexual hate bill attached as a rider. The day after I sent out my alert, all hell broke loose from FOX News. O'Reilly repeatedly vilified Kennedy on national television for preferring passage of his hate bill over the safety of America's children. Right now, Kennedy, along with Sen. Gordon Smith, is again attempting to attach the hate bill as a rider to a piece of large, sure-to-pass legislation. This time, it's the Defense Authorization bill H.R. 1585.
I disapprove of the Iraq War but strongly endorse rapid passage of this arms bill so that American troops are provided with the best protections necessary to keep them safe and bring them home soon.
Kennedy's rider (S.A. 2067), if approved by the Senate, inserts a glaringly unnecessary bone of contention into the swift passage of the arms bill. The arms bill can't be passed without also passing the hate bill amendment. With the President adamantly opposed to the hate bill, having indicated he will veto it, a conflict is created by Kennedy that could significantly slow passage of the arms bill.
If Kennedy were honorable, he would not hold American military families, soldiers, Congress and the President hostage to his demand for hate bill passage. He would not submit the hate bill as an inconspicuous rider. Instead, he would attempt to pass it on its own terms, as the House did in May, exposed to the light of day and public review, warts, wrinkles and all. But that could well mean defeat in the Senate.
Those who created the hate bill, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, never designed it to withstand such scrutiny. As stealth legislation, it was crafted to slip through Congress quietly or be bullied through quickly, as happened earlier in the House.
The fact that Kennedy must again resort to underhanded methods and national blackmail is evidence the Senate hate bill has a much weaker chance of passage than in the House. Such weakness is the result of months of protest by the American people.

What's to be done about a senator who held America's children hostage to his hate bill last winter and is doing the same to the American people today?
Realize that Kennedy (his closet overflowing with skeletons) is but a lackey for the Anti-Defamation League, the "civil liberties" front for B'nai B'rith International. B'nai B'rith is an enormous Jewish activist organization with a half million members and presence in 56 nations. As the official voice of "organized world Jewry," B'nai B'rith is vehemently anti-Christian. It masterminded the hate laws that govern Canada, most European countries, Australia, and New Zealand. Over the past 5 years, ADL and B'nai B'rith have created a 56-nation hate crimes gestapo in Europe, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. OSCE is dedicated to persecuting "homophobic" Christians and ending free speech everywhere -- from the street corner to the pulpit to the internet.
