Good point about the disability policy. Veterans who have been injured in the line of duty and then tortured for five plus years on top of it do not deserve any sort of benifit for it.

And 30% tax (on the rest of his income) is not nearly enough for someone of his wealth to be paying. People that wealthy (read as anyone making more than me) should be paying 90% taxes on their income. It is not fair that the top 50% earners pay only 95% of the federal income taxes - we deserve more from them. They should probably be paying more in property taxes as well.

Hmm the story linked says they went ahead and paid the back taxes, best not mention that here so we can still bash him some more.

Gravatar Not a Veteran:

If you're all the McCain campaign has, they're in deeper shit that I thought.

You are not going to happy on Election Night.

Gravatar Shame the McCain supporter doesn't have the same concern for Iraq War veterans who are getting squat for THEIR service.

A war McStain wants to keep going forever.

Hey, Not A Veteran - I don't want to live in a military dictatorship.

Gravatar You seem to think I support McCain. I don't. I am for more taxes - 90% on these wealthy 50%+ earners. McCain should never be president. He is not capable of getting me the free government services I deserve. Too bad someone like Chavez could not come and take over America. Then we could socialize all of our industries and all be equals. There is no need to give veterans extra benifits. Why should they be treated better than me? Anyone serving in Iraq is more likely to be guilty of murder than a hero of this country. They should all be tried for war crimes by the next administration. Start with Bush and go down to the last private. Just following orders is no excuse for murdering innocent Iraqis.

Gravatar I don't know that I'd go so far as 90% marginal rates.

I'd settle for one "Beltway Inbred middle-classer" (you know,

Gravatar I don't know that I'd go so far as 90% marginal rates.

I'd settle for one "Beltway Inbred middle-classer" (you know, ~$200k ) to admit that the rich got richer, faster, than all other classes with those confiscatory tax rates of the 1990s.

Without the first step of admitting their problem, they can't be trusted to report anything in economics.

Gravatar I think "Not A Veteran" has adequately explained his handle with his sarcastic posts. Clearly he doesn't understand concepts like "common good" and "government of the people, by the people, for the people." Apparently all he cares about is his wallet. How truly conservative, no?

Gravatar Southern Beale - I want the government to be of the people, by the people, and for the people. Specifically, we need to seize the assests of the upper 50% and give them to the people via free government services. How better to make this government for the people? Only a true socialist government will be of all the people, by all the people, and for all the people.

Gravatar Why is it that conservatives have such difficulty doing humor (referencing "Not a Veteran"'s failed attempt at satire)?

Anyways, the irony in this story is that the GOP likes to complain about how high taxes are. I guess John McCain found a way around that, simply don't pay them!

Veterans who have been injured in the line of duty and then tortured for five plus years on top of it do not deserve any sort of benifit for it.

Disabled vets deserve to be well compensated for wha they sacrifice, however if someone is so significantly disabled as to require $58,358 of tax-free compensation a year, it's fair to assume that they are not in good enough health to take of the most powerful position in the world for 4 years.

And 30% tax (on the rest of his income) is not nearly enough for someone of his wealth to be paying.

In a nation of law and order, most of us try to change the law if we don't like it as is. And who is in a better situation to do that than a sitting US Senator. If John McCain feels his taxes are too high, then he should set to work drafting legislation to change them and getting others on board (or in this case, writing or calling his state level politicians). That's the correct way to change what you deem an unfair law. Simply breaking it is NOT the right way to go about it. I don't want a President who thinks it's simply ok to just ignore the laws you don't like. That's a recipe for anarchy.

Gravatar "Why is it that conservatives have such difficulty doing humor"

Actually, they think bullying and name-calling IS humor.

Gravatar Enough quibbling. The solution is staring us in the face:

Let's have a telethon to raise money to pay the McCain's taxes!

We'll need a rich politician to host it, someone who wants to inspire us rather than just give money. Maybe rich, telegenic, good hair, with comic chops.

Any candidates?
