Yeah, who's kidding who. They should just be honest and change the Dept. of Energy to the Dept. of More oil.
I remember the '73 embargo too. The long lines, cars running out of gas while waiting to fill up. Perfect time to gaze into the navel and start making serious changes in energy policy. Nope, more oil! I don't think real change will come until the $ pain returns. Look what $4.00 a gallon did. What if it goes to $5.00?
(funny how gas $ drops before a pres election)
Hey, it's Friday. Kitten Fu!

We can't drill our way out of this, but can we refine our way out of this?
Those who complain "there hasn't been a refinery built in this country in ~20 years" haven't given us Poster Child One. Hard to find an oil company who wants to build one and thinks they'll make their money back on it.

There's more money in NOT building new refineries because they can control supply and ask for more per gallon.

I don't know if I'd say that. Considering China and India's combined growing appetite for oil products, the big oil guys who get to build refineries probably think the grass is greener there.
And smart people can't debunk the "Untapped American crude will turn into gas and heating oil for Americans, by the good grace of multinational oil companies" pipedream fast enough.
