Gravatar Yeah, the left and right can definitely agree that mainstream media is slipping (at least in some ways). And it's not just TV -- have you read the Washington Post Sunday Magazine lately? What vapid crap that has become. I guess that's why conservatives listen to talk radio and liberals read blogs! I think journalism's decline began when managers stopped asking "What's important?" and started trying to guess what people would want to watch/read.

Gravatar The kicker for me is that CBS has thrown away what they can do--straight, dry journalism--for two things they never will succeed at.

Like the stereotypical beaten wife, no matter how many times they apologize doing nothing wrong (covering a story factually) they will incur the wrath of the right wing, and backpedal.

And like the middle-aged guy who wants to pick up a college coed, no matter how "funny, irreverent and hip" they posture themselves as, the consumers know the difference. They want a little slice of The Daily Show, perhaps John Hodgman, without recognizing anything about satire and speaking truth to power.

And special bonus points subtracted for the promo which has Katie Couric promising to ask prez candidates "What country scares you?"

Gravatar Southern Beale, I put up a blogroll at my site and, because I occasionally stop in here and like your site, I included it. I hope you don't mind! And if so,no need to reciprocate, I just like your place.

Gravatar Thanks, Marcellina, I appreciate it!
