I'll always hate that damn truck for changing the whole meaning of the term 'hummer'.
In other news, USAToday is currently carrying an item titled, "Dog Frozen to Sidewalk - Fat Helped It Survive" (yes, seriously!), which occurred to me, could well be a metaphor for the state of our nation in recent years.
For good off-roading and general toughness, nothing beats the Ford Broncos of the early 1990's straight outta the factory. The ideal curb weight of 4,616 lbs. combines the advantages of a relatively light weight and incredible power. This nimble giant is all you need to tame the wildest of trails.
Although the military issue are much lighter than their civilian counterparts, the basic H2 weighs in at a hefty 6,614 lbs. A full ton more than the Ford. That's gotta affect the handling and stopping distance. Judging by the number of one-vehicle accidents the military has racked up since these vehicles were introduced, I'd take the Bronco any day of the week.
