Gravatar I remember from Coney or someplace on the Jersey/DelMarVa shore a "fire paintballs at Osama or Saddam Hussein" (a person in a padded camo suit) attraction a few years ago.

This particular one doesn't seem outrageously real enough to stem the tide of "it's like hazing pledges" crap.

No, it doesn't. I daresay if you see it at the amusement park, you're actually playing into the "hazing pledges" meme.

Gravatar As my old Cherokee, Morman Granny used to say: "Lord a mercy the end of time is fast upon us now boys." And the Lord just sent Favre to those Baal worshipers up in New York.

Seriously, was this exhibit meant to praise or point out how wrong our torturing people is? Did you guys notice that both major parties in Britain have now condemned our practices?

Gravatar This absolutely does NOT trivialize anything.

If forces people to see what they don't want to see, as the article indicates.

There has never been a government that had torture as public policy that did not eventually turn the practice against it own people. NEVER.

Don't believe it will happen here? They are counting on that.

The historical record shows that liberal dissidents are usually among the first targeted after the lines are blurred. There is a bill in the Senate (S. 1959) that has already passed the House that criminalizes dissidence as domestic terrorism. Check out Naomi Wolf, The End of America. You can argue with her if you don't believe me.

It's not that state sanctioned torture is a serious issue, it's pretty much the *only* issue.

Gravatar This looks like a good art piece. Deeply political and subversive. Given that our cops no have tasers and routinely use them for complience enforcement, torture is gradually becoming a permanent par of our landscape.
