Easy fix. Get up and hit the switch. Reach behind the box and pull the plug. Take the box out to the curb with a sign on it that says "Free". Go cold turkey for six months and see how much your life improves.
The simple fact is everyone throws up 'reasons' why they watch...(I just watch the good stuff, I just watch sports, I DON'T watch, its just on in the background, I just watch the news...) but the bottom line is you're hearing the voices of the addicted.
Pull the plug. Get clean.

Well, for starters my husband would divorce me ... which might be an improvement ... or not!

Been without TV for over a year now, not willingly but due to finances... sure, I miss some stuff (Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl, Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters) but on the whole, meh, it's worth living without.
Don't throw it out though - it's still good for DVDs and videos, both of which allow fast-forwarding through whatever you damn well please.

Well, DVDs don't, I've received a few movie releases that won't let you fast forward past the previews, even though I want to scream BUT I ALREADY SAW THAT MOVIE!!!!
I do like the idea of watching TV shows on DVD, because they are commercial free. But just you watch, as soon as that takes off with consumers, the advertisers will just put their damn commercials back in there, and keep us from fast-forwarding. Honestly, if they could make us sit with our eyeballs stuck open like that scene from "Clockwork Orange," they would.

Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl
Mark my words: As the Yule Log was to the 1960s, Puppy Bowl will be to the millenium. Kids tomorrow won't remember it not being on.
I love it myself, except the kittens have to be interacted with more to lose their dignity in front of the camera.

The best part is when the previewed movie absolutely sucks, and you've forgotten it until the preview you can't FF thru. If I'm Eddie Murphy, say, do I want to remind folks of "Norbit" that badly?

Usually you can use the "next chapter" fast forward to skip each individual preview if hitting the menu button won't take you to the main menu.
