And you're right about how scary it is that one company can essentially "own" all of this data. Hopefully, Google sticks to its motto.

Okay, see.... it says RIGHT there (yes I looked at your link. You just couldn't stand it any longer so I decided to put you out of your misery) anyway, it says RIGHT there that it originated from a mispelled word. A TYPO. And it basically means "own" (The originally misspelled word) and since "pwn" is no shorter than the word "own", JUST SAY "OWN"!

*sigh* no, you still don't get it. that's how MOST words are created - the natural evolution of language. from slang (common usage), which is generally a derivation (read: typo, or misuse) of academically "proper" language.

gahhhhh! yes it has! i GAVE you the link. that dictionary has been used in court cases! (i don't have the reference to that) and in order to be a typo, it would have to have been unintentional. we've established, it was intentional. in the context of a tech service and the internet, it was a valid reference to the slang of that forum, however silly slang it may be. meant in all the humor of "ha ha, isn't this a silly word!"
