Is it weird to be the first to comment on your own blog?
I think that my struggle is how often I see us settle for only the book. That sounds like a heretical statement but isn't my desire. So often we live as if God is dead and all we have of his remains are the Bible. I don't want a book; I want a Messiah; I want a Savior; I want my God and his son Jesus to live with as much power in my life and the lives of those around me as they did in Paul's life and Peter's life. I don't want to settle for less than a God because a Holy Book is easier to grasp.

There's no question that the writer's of scripture place high importance on scripture. In Mark's email, I believe he referenced several old testament scriptures that will suffice. David spoke of the word of God in reference to scripture. In short, I don't think it is beyond the boundaries of the phrase to reference scripture as God's word.
However, the word of God spoken of in John one in directly connected to the greek idea of Logos, in my estimation. It is another proclamation of Jesus' identity.
To my suprise in previous years, many would say that the "Word" referred to in Hebrews 4 is also not scripture, but is Christ himself. I've preached it otherwise in the past. It definitely changes the meaning of the passage to consider Christ as "sharper than a sword" rather than scripture.
Just a few thoughts to get the banter going.

i think proclaiming the Bible as 'the word of God' is innaccurate, technically, as scripture always called Jesus 'the word of God', the uncreated expression-2nd person of the trinity. Scripture is spoken of as God-inspired, but even the 2nd Timothy reference is problematic when taken out of context of the community of faith. to isolate Scripture as inspired apart from the community is a new innovation, and not what paul what have meant.
