What's so delicious about the children argument is that the leftist-global warming lobby is in effect saying to the third world masses, "we've got ours, but we don't want you to get yours. . ." Let's keep billions in poverty over a fad. . .

I don't believe that is the argument at all. MY argument is that the industrial path followed by the west is an unsustainable avenue, both in natural resources and environmental degradation. There are other technologies that allow a more sustainable growth of industry and economies. Global warming is only one consideration in a long list of serious potential consequences. We have the technology, ability, and moral obligation to help ensure a healthy world for our children.

"We have the technology, ability, and moral obligation to help ensure a healthy world for our children." - I couldn't agree more. . . but, 100 years ago no one would have predicted the technological advances that are dragging us out of the smokestack economy. . . economic growth, unhampered by feel-good, uneffective measures like Kyoto, is the path towards a cleaner, more sustainable system. . . Kyoto will depress investment, technological advancement, and ultimately the livelihoods of billions in the third world. . .

My experience is that only people WITH children truly care about children.
Others see them as a useful leverage to get their agendas advanced.
If you say you care about kids but are childless, either have or adopt some and make a difference.
Otherwise, quiet!

"There are other technologies that allow a more sustainable growth of industry and economies."
Most certainly. This is why we will see the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, etc. demanding rapid and large-scale nuclearization and a robust space program aimed at the creation of an infrastructure for development of SPS.
Let me know when this happens. You may have to find a good necromancer to do so.
