i'm really biased on this one. i think us filipinos equate suffering and hardship to happiness. maybe because God said happy are the poor, they shall inherit the kingdom of God. so, why be rich?

and one thing i noticed, my parents didn't teach me how to cope with things. my dad just said, sorry no money. if i had problems, i just suck it up.

tough love? let's face it, there's a lot parents who don't know how to parent. it's back to the smallest unit of society, the family.
