Gravatar Why dont we just break down all the sexist barriers and stop segregating male events from female events. Let them all compete on an equal footing, and prize money distributed accordingly....or would that be too fair?

To me this is kind of like if the Busch series drivers demanding the same pay as the Nextel Cup drivers....even though they cant hang in head to head competition, nor do their events draw as big a crowd.....but it just aint fair that the Nextel Cup guys get paid more for doing the same thing the Busch series drivers do.

btw way....I used to play quite a lot of Tennis, and I was fairly good at it....but I have been beat by a woman before.....she was better than me. I see no valid reason that they should not compete against each other.

Gravatar While I welcome the decision I think the sarcasm is somewhat unwarranted. The pay disparity was less than 5% and apart from the quarter-, semi-, and final, women's tennis attracts a smaller crowd, & even for the latter rounds a lower TV audience (at Wimbledon). So the question is, should pay be equal if revenues are not? Should players in the WNBA be paid the same as the NBA? What about women's soccer in the US, which forced star players to accept wages in line with the lesser players to help the league - which folded anyway. I'm all for equal pay, but feel it should be based on performance (revenues in this case).

Gravatar Are the women going to play best of 5 instead of best of 3 matches now ? Or are we not quite ready for real equality yet?

Gravatar I'm with Brice - tennis is the one major sport where interest in the women's game is on par with or sometimes, at a higher level than the men. They deserve to be paid equally as a result. While it would be nice if the NBA and WNBA stars were paid the same, it just doesn't make sense becuase the interest is so unbalanced. You get paid what the market says you will.

Gravatar no surprising, Wimbledon yields to political correctness. Men play longer matches, opening more commercial spots, and bringing in more profit. This is like demanding the winner of the Daytona 500 makes the same as the 3M Performance 400.
