Rep. Peter Stark's comments a few days ago concerning the 'war' and the ridiculous amount of money already spent and going to be spent on it, at the expense of neglecting young Americans at home, reflects many people's views. His colorful use of words reflecting Bush's war and 'blowing' things up including young Americans is an effective way to stir up the masses, and that was his point. As predicted, many against his comments attack his person beliefs, his Party, and his past record. Isn't this issue bigger than any personal religious belief, or political Party. I thought this was about the TRUTH and having courage enough to speak it in public. Many against Stark say that he is doing a dis-service to Americans overseas and their families. I think this is spineless and coward thinking. The reality of it is that most American young men in the military overseas do not want to be there. They are 'stuck' and some forced to re-enlist etc. Go ask a few before writing down something you do not know about. Another point: People and politicians condemning Starks' remarks as unpatriotic and un-American are brainwashed indeed. I did not know we had a form of royalty or benevelant dicatorship in America. Maybe we do. Folks overseas most probably are laughing at how foolish people comment like sheep. MPs overseas, speak this way in the House of Commons daily, and some do have royalty. How ironic indeed. Wake up America, indeed!

Hawk, I just noticed you responded. Sounds like you are in general agreement with my comments. Unfortunately, it seems you have not heard of 'stop gap' ..critical, significant MOSs or AFSC etc that force some members to 'stay in.' And for spree, I guess you have heard from many Reservists or Guard folks who initially enlisted/commissions before 911 and now are 'stuck' on duty..etc

My son is currently in Iraq, returning home next week from a 15 month deployment. We are extremely happy and gratefult that he is returning safely. My nephew leaves for a 15 month deployment next spring. I agree with Rep. Stark's comments 100% and me disgusted with the congressional leadership for making him apologize. If you asked me if if I approve of congress right now I would say "no" because of their spinelessness in standing up to the Bush administration. For those who say that Stark was wrong in saying that soldiers are being blown up for the amusement of Bush, I remind you of his "funny" home video at the White House Corresdent's dinner a few years ago. Bush apparently thought it was very amusing that WMD's had not been found in Iraq. He apprently thought it was amusing, but many of us did not.
Carol, tht doesn't negate the other 22 reasons in the joint authorization that allow military force to be used.
Your son and your nephew are heroes that joined voluntarily and you should be extremely proud of them.

thanks to carol for reminding me of that hilarious bit by bush. i was personally reminded of him giggling during the debates about putting people to death while govenor of texas. i am also reminded of john boehner saying that the almost 4000 dead soldiers are a small price to pay to stop al queda. of course we are actually making al queda stronger by all reports...but no matter he didn't apologize either.
Henrik, the exact opposite. If you bothered to go through the archives you would have seen dozens of letters from the active military, some saying and I quote "keep congress off our backs" so we can get the job done.
Others saying that people like you simply do not understand the need for freedom in iraq and perhaps you should also read the work of Eddie Jeffers... a soldier that died recently that calls people like you "ignorant sheep" as well as saying flat out that YOU and others like you made him feel as if you were his enemy.

i'm not aware of what faux news may be telling you. intelligence and counter-terrorism agencies have been painting a fairly consistent picture of an al queda that is near pre-9.11 strength. try to keep in mind that al-queda in iraq (aqi) is a very small and very new part of a world-wide network. it is the current civilian leadership that has focused efforts in primarily iraq.

My news comes from the horses mouth which leaves me wondering where you get yours.
To claim they are getting stronger when their latest attempts in Germany were foiled, their failed attempt in Turkey FOILED, their pathetic attempt in Denmark FOILED, their London attempt FOILED.
That is called disorganization and chaos because they have no place to train so they are now providing training websites, hence the FOILED attempts.

The soldiers on the ground can speak to the actions and failures of al-Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as to documents about al-Qaeda worldwide that have been captured IN Iraq and Afghanistan.
The authorities from Germany, Turkey, Denmark and London can speak and have to the foiled plots across those areas, the DoD and Centcom with military throughout the world speaks to al-Qaeda's desperation as does bin Laden's latest video where HE focuses on Iraq and calls for people to united and admit the mistakes they have made.
It is called getting news from the different resources available for the relevant areas instead of listening to the news reports you obviously have been getting your news from.
NOW, the post is about Stark's comments and his apology....either stick to the topic or you will be gone.

I tried to find a youtube clip but could not. Here is a BBC article about it. My son was not in the Army in 2004 but I thought it tasteless then and even more so now.

Many things get taken either out of context OR simply never happened. If they do happen, there is always a clip, when it comes to Bush, the liberals make sure that video is available.

Well, Spree, I don't have to ask myself why it can't be found because I saw it many, many times after it happened in 2004. Did you look at the BBC link quoting from the dinner? I could give you dozens of more links talking about it, but you can check out the ones below. The comments by Bush to the video he showed at the Correspondent's dinner cannot be taken out of context. Whether an individual thinks they are funny or not is of course up to interpretation. I do not think they are funny.

Carol, MANY things are on Youtube that were created before 2005. ANY clip can be added to Youtube...fact is you cannot find ANY clip of it... NOW, back to topic, quit making excuses. Either you can find some clip proving it or you cannot and it is rumor until you do.

Spree: Just saw your comments about mine. I can tell you are very much pro-war. If I am wrong please say so. There is usually know way to open a mind such as yours as you rely on emotional appeal to a large extent; the testimony of young, and brave citizens either killed, wounded or traumatized by real war condtions. Your feelings and statements are most probably genuine even if you usually ready DoD, military official text which will not tell you the TRUTH. A little of myself, I am not a young man, and I am a veteran that will always support the soldier when the chips are down. The politician, usually not. This nevertheless does not excuse me from expressing the truth as I see it. In closing, I believe it is high time we as a country take time out and regroup and serve the needs of Americans including its dying uncared soldiers at home. Cease any more pre-emptied wars where America is seen as the invader and occupier. We, today, have an out-of-control executive Branch (the other Branches are playing fine tunes to it) that needs to be reeled back in to a sane state.
