McCain is essentially running a Bush 2004 election strategy as evidenced in this ad...the only problem is that it's 2008 and will definitely not work against Obama. The ad attacks Obama's Iraq position as "whatever the politics demand" when Obama has been consistently against the war from the start, while McCan has consistently been a leading war cheerleader who moves with the politics of the moment. For example, McCain had praised the Iraq War strategy in December 2003 as a "mission accomplished," noting that the U.S. would be greeted as liberators. Recently, however, McCain has claimed that he was the "greatest critic" of Rumsfeld's strategies and that he knew all along that the war in Iraq wasn't over and was "going to be hard and tough." I seriously can't wait for a documentary showcasing all of the 61 McCain flip-flops, but Obama would certainly have to buy extended television time to fit all of them into any ad...

Obama conceded to surge "improvements" but not to surge "success"...BIG DIFFERENCE -- not that these edited versions of his comments allow him to finish many sentences. Obama has been consistent all along that America needs to withdraw responsibly. McCain's own rose-colored prediction in 2003 was that America would be "greeted as liberators" in Iraq. OOPS! Grandpa then flip-flopped from embracing Rumsfeld's failed war strategy to later taking him to task for giving the troops unreliable body armor. Bring on the debates! We'll see firsthand who reads from cue cards (McCain) and who can think on his feet (Smoove B.) Barack on!!
