I respectfully disagree with my Senator from Texas on this issue. There is no need to censure speech in order to affect the debate on this issue.
Those who fail to speak out can be chastised by those who do. We do not need to make law to effect this outcome.

Michael there is NO excuse to make baseless accusations against a sitting general without proof either. THAT is called libel and yes, Cronyn is right to wish to condemn it.

I respectfully disagree with the Honorable Gentleman from Texas on this one. Trying to pass a act in the Senate that challenges the right to speak out is not going to work and its the wrong approach in my opinion.
I happen to agree with Petraeus. At the same time, was the ad from MoveON wrong? Sure. Was it libelous? Maybe. In principle, is there something wrong about speaking out against the General. I don't think so. Frankly, whether "sitting" or not (I've never heard the word "sitting" used in that context) is not the point.
I just don't think that legislating ala Cornyn's "act" is appropriate use of Senate time. Aside from anything else, the proposed amendment was to the transportation and housing spending bill. What the hello does that have to do with Iraq?

The resolution was to affirm that the General was honest and had served without blemish. I think it SHOULD be voted for and anyone that refuses to condemn MoveOn should be considered as standing with them.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a resolution showing the "sense of the senate" is that General Petraeus has integrity.
Nothing.

Excuse me, he was adding the amendment to the Defense bill. Did you even hear it when he did it?
This was today, not the last time he tried. He made that very clear and that makes it relevant.
Night everyone.

There was proof. Click on over to the MoveOn site. Notably, what we haven't seen at all is any refutation of MoveOn's claims.

MoveOn.org has a stated agenda, a stated purpose, and a stated mission.

There are THREE rebuttals.
And those were pulled up WITHOUT having to do any digging.
Better check yourself next time, have your facts straight, in order, and verifiable.

Excuse me. I'm not even suggesting that MoveOn is right. If Cornyn re-introduced the resolution as part of the Defense bill, then yes, I missed it. Sorry! Been a little distracted by "issues." Besides, I already said that I supported Petraeus.

I went to Petraeus' hail and farewell ceremony here at Fort Leavenworth in January and my husband worked under him.. Petraeus is arguably the most respected GEN of our time. I've never heard anyone in the military, even those who might be suspicious of the war effort, denegrate Petraeus in any way.

Freedom of Speech is one thing but Move on crossed the line.
And I agree with the President, attacking the General was also attacking our Military.
I wish they'd pay this much attention on attacking our enemy.
Remember without a Soldier defending our Freedoms we wouldn't have them.
This is what our Troops do and the General that Move On keeps barking about.
It's too bad Move On has no shame, but then one must have class , tact & feelings in order to have emotion.
As for the dems, don't expect them to denounce the ad, some want to be President.
I wish they'd want to be President of a circus it would be more their speed.
