"Is it any wonder why no one trusts the Dems with our National Security?"
What about me? I trust the Democrats. The sooner we are out of Iraq the sooner we can address national security.
From the latest Newsweek poll:
3B. Do you approve or disapprove of the way Bush is handling terrorism and homeland security?
Approve 45%
Disapprove 49%
Don't Know 6%
Most are willing to give the Democrats a shot, anyway. Most understand that Cheney/Bush's recreational war in Iraq has harmed our national security.

I love how you seem to ignore the polls that show the Dems are losing public support because of the games they are playing Elmer.
As usual you mistate the truth, most Americans know and understand that leaving Iraq before they are stable would cause chaos in the whole region and perhaps world war III.
You keep deluding yourself Elmer.

Even now, almost 80 percent of Americans are concerned that that the Democratic Congress will push too hastily for the withdrawal of US troops in Iraq.

Try getting the facts striaght before commenting again Elmer.
Democrats have a long history of NOT being trusted with National Security and that is with good reason.

". If things continue as they are right now, our military won't need a surge to chase the terrorists out of Anbar- the citizens will do it for us, which is as it should be."
We've been waiting four years for this. Let's hope Iraqis really are serious about helping themselves so we can leave.

EXCELLENT, SPREE! I'm a big fan of Petraeus not only because my husband worked under him for a few months until he took command in Iraq, but because he's a brilliant commander.
I haven't had much time to follow the McCain/Lindsey story, but I'll be keeping up today.
Recreational war, Elmer? Give me a break. This is a war that had to be fought sooner or later. US policy since 1990 was regime change in Iraq and the installation of a democratic government there. No one had the backbone to do this until President Bush, even though Clinton and the Democrats throughout the 90's held to the same beliefs about Iraq as the current Bush does.

Stop blaming Iraqis! They've been standing up for themselves since the invasion in 2003. They have overcome unbelievable odds to have advanced where they are today.
The fact is the United States owes Iraq and we have an obligation to see this through, no matter how long it takes, especially when we have men volunteering to join the military and fight on our behalf. We've been screwing with Iraqis since the first Gulf War, giving them hope of ridding the world of Saddam just to let them down to fend for themselves against a murderous Baath Party who'd kill whole villages for sympathizing with America.
They are standing up... this takes time... and this IS a war. We have to expect the hardships that go along with it. If its too hard for anyone to handle, they can simply turn off their TV and go for a walk in their nice free country and leave the heavy lifting to the troops.

My new post today with a link to the PDF file showing the amazing progress we are having in our reconstruction efforts in Iraq, from water to electricity and from health clinics to schools.
A little bit for everyone including a few messages to those that would encourage a forced defeat on our brave military.

"this takes time... and this IS a war."
Careful Amy. Spree gets mad at those who refer to the 'reconstruction' as a 'war'.

Once again Greg you speak without knowing the facts.
Amy is the one that showed ME the missing sentence in Bush's "mission accomplished" Quote that everyone, including you deliberately neglect to address where he follows up with, "Now Reconstruction begins".
You might not be able to understand that Iraq is under reconstruction but it IS one of the major battlefields in the WAR against terror, that does not mean that Amy or I will forget it OR change our phrasing because you cannot wrap your head around an idea that takes serious thought.

Ok- I got it: it's under reconstruction but is also a major battlefield in a war, but is not itself a war.

"US policy since 1990 was regime change in Iraq and the installation of a democratic government there."
We already addressed this. The clearly stated policy was to encourage the opposition in Iraq to overthrow Sadam. Never, nowhere, nohow was it stated that we should go in there preemtively and take him out. They did it because they thought it would be easy. Thus "mission accomplished."

Is this the look of a man who knew of the serious reconstruction task ahead?

Mission accomplished and reconstrution begins now....if you are going to quote Bush, have the basic honesty to use the WHOLE quote Elmer.
