It is sad that after 9/11 and with bloggers, the addition of Fox News and Talk Radio that journalist would know these obvious unethical practices would be pointed out. Especially during a time of war.
It appears there are several issues.
1) Entrenched bias from highest levels
2) Arrogance preached from on high
3) Gatekeeping and holding back info that does not agree with top two agenda
4) Feedback thru educational institutions and polling to advance the false continuim.
Thus, the negative news we feed to you is polled in order to let media know its message is working or not. It is no longer about informing all points, good or bad in full honest and open debate.
Even Howard Kurtz is guilty of it at times. He bashed Ann Coulter by only playing a small snippet of info, not allowing the viewers to see good statements she stated about Jews. Thus, he then states to Michael Medved today that it was still fair and the viewers let CNN know their disgust.
Its the way it works. Frame the message, restrict information, limit debate with one-sided views.
This is the same with homosexual agenda, the war, healtchare, and any number of items framed by the left. They are managing the message like a fine-tuned propaganda machine, better than some marketing companies.

One other note: any who question the above are labeled intolerant, fascist, mean-spirited, and even evil at times.... thus good is evil, evil is good. We have no right to question what should be obvious to the left.
Question guys...

Which makes it doubly important that we hunt news on our own. The age of the internet allows us to find information that our media refuses to report.
It is OUR responsibility to educate ourselves.
They are irrelevant now.

If you all are looking for hard evidence as to how the MSM continue to attempt to unravel our troops' efforts, take a gander at this article by Myrna Blyth at NRO:

To counter such disgraceful drivel, there is this article written by Anna Mulrine at U.S. News and World Report:

I remember the hearing the same thing about criminality in certain states. This report about how, despite decreasing crimes and deaths, TVs keapt showing the same images over and over (generally blacks), giving more and more time to those news. So the impression of the people is that criminality actually increased. Its all about the money.
You really can't have hope in humanity can you.

I agree the surge is working, and the media hasn't done as much reporting on it as they should. But I don't believe the journalists are politically biased- most media outlets are owned by Republicans, with boards dominated by Republicans.
It comes down to "The bridge fell down" is considered news. "The bridge did not fall down" is not considered news. News outlets are businesses, and the more they sell a story, the more money they make. That's why FOX, CNN, ABC- the lot of them spent so much time on trash like Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears' antics, when it has nothing to do with life and death, or war and peace, or the econoly, or anyhting relevant. Shock sells, and so do bloody people in the streets.
Eduardo makes a good point talking about crime rates- which have fallen constantly since the '70s in this country. Yet what does the media report on? Death. Blood greases coins, even if it is televised carnage or trash. It isn't political, so much as business, despite not being fair to the Iraq forces, or LAPD efforts, or thousands of engineers who designed fantastic bridges and never will be reported on.

Hi Snooper. I am not a troll. I respect that you have strong feelings about this, but I play the centrist in message boards. I prod the liberals about things like crime and punishment, gun control, nuclear energy, affirmative action and the like. I tend to prod the Republicans on the liberal media issue because it isn't so simple "the media is liberal".
The media wants to sell stories, and blood, sex, and violence sell. Hence Iraq, bridges falling, and Paris Hiçlton.
My original point was that "the bridge fell down" is news, but "the bridge fell down" is not news. I went on to note that Rebublicans mostly make up the corporations that own many media outlets, which is true (below). (Also, media are becoming increasingly concentrated in the hands of large corporations). For instance, at the end of WWII 80% of newspapers were provately owned. Now 80% are owned by one of the 14 Newspaper corps. (27 corps owned newspapers in 1960, and only 14 own newspapers now. From 1981 to 1992 the number of corps that owned media outlets dropped from 46 to 23, into bigger corp hands. All citations in the last link).
Something a friend kicked together awhile back:
http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-
...iberalmedia.htm
Specifically addressing the CEO issues of the corps, several publications have the CEO headcoutns spelles out, and for instance of the 14 companies that own newspapers in 2002 11 had majority Republicans on boards ("Little Blue Book" tracks this, but you can check for yourself by cross referencing a board with voter reg databases. Registration is a public document).
http://www.electionline.org/Defa...aspx?tabid=28
. Such as when O'Reilly claimed he was registered Independent but was "caught" being registerred Republican). This was 2002, I don't know what Blue Book has tallied today but I imagine it isn't much different.
In the end it is about money bro. Blood sells, that's all I am trying to say. It ISN'T fair to our troops that their successes in the surge lately haven't been registered as much, but hey- that's what we get whenwhen we tolerate news and entertanment getting blurred together.

And no verbiage from you to counter it. I made a case for the corporatization of the media, the evidence for the consolidation of which is quite solid, and you don't address it. My hometown of Brawley, CA used to have two newspapers- they combined to one. My new home of San Diego used to have thze Union and the Tribue, now there is only one paper- the Union-Tribune.
Look for yourself who owns your local newspaper, and two or three near you. And then look up in the Blue Book who they donate to. Don't take my word for it.
The story isn't simple my friend, it involves sensationalism, yellow journalism, and sales- a long American tradition.

what, do you think we all sit up round the clock waiting with baited breath for you to come and comment, Travis? I'm on my way to work now or I'd have a lot of fun ripping your "statement" to tatters.
Centrist? You're no centrist, you merely want to start an argument with whomever will be baited into bantering back at you. Thats a form of psychosis, amigo. Might want to ponder on that for a bit.

Sorry Snooper, Hawk beat you to the punch in threatening to "tatter" my argument, but not. Am I a troll just because I disagree with you? I don't even disagree the surge success is being under reported, and unfair to the military. Call me a troll if you want, but I came here because I like to explore lots of perspectives. It doesn't seem like you want to. Often I learn things I didn't know, which is important in life, since life isn't about red or blue. But I haven't learned anything here.
I have a few other productive conversations going in other blogs, so I'll bid you adieu as all I see scrolling up are ad hominems and accusations, rather than information or citations.
P.S. Alas Hawk, I am certifiably sane since my job requires it. I wish you all the best.

Travis, I was actually busy with other things that were actually important, rather than delving into the deluded murky waters of someone who confesses that he is nothing more than a shit stirrer.
Psychosis doesn't necessarily mean insane, and I made no "official" diagnosis of how deeply you're affected by it, but you may take my word for it, to do nothing but incite arguments wherever you go for conversations IS INDEED a form of psychosis.
You get off on pushing the buttons of others, making them mad, watching them start to lose a grip on their tempers.
I don't expect a reply to this, nor will I waste any more of my time on you.
There are hundreds and hundreds of small newspapers out there who aren't owned by big conglomerates. The ones that are, and are owned by "conservatives?" What sells papers? Good news or the sensational? Thus the left tramples and brainwashes the public, because those making the money off of the big newspapers have allowed it to go on so long they don't know how to stop it.
Now, I'm done with you.
