Iran is in a terrible bind - courtesy of the Great Satan. Nearly a billion dollars spent on any doofus w/ a grudge and an AK74 in Iraq - from the Badr Corps, the Mahdi Army (v4.0), their new best pals AQ and nothing to show for it - no caliphate, no theocracy, no super Iranian leaning majority in the Iraq Gov either. Nothing.
Students, teachers, workers, war vets all rioting, Russia bails on completing several heavy construction projects because of lack of pay, the religious police, the dress code police and the secret police crackdown and continue to torment their own people. Mass executions are now in vogue with the mullahs and even better, they tend to follow the 3rd Reich's strum und drang communiques about how awesome their military and weaponry are (keep in mind these are the same cats who besieged Basra for nearly 6 years and couldn't break through).
The mullah's are losing it! Encircled by the Great Satan, the Islamic Republic is baring her bloody fangs at the world. Look for Iran to launch a 'surge' of her own. Can she maintain power at home and project a shi ite crescent from Persia to the Med?

Maybe the mullahs are launching a charm campaign to secure their south flank. Since the Revo Guards chicanery in Iraq has been a bust ('member all those Iranian RG agents and generals undercover who died, defectected or disappeared?) Iran will need lottie dottie ever' body to 'haj' in a coup of sorts. Best bet?Try to keep the sunni kdoms neutral than hostile. Recent internal events in the IR could be argued that the mullahs need to move faster - time is running short.
The real quiz is will the Custodian of the 2 holy places play along, keeping Jordan and Egypt neutral or will the co2hp, Jordan and Egypt buddy up w/ the unislamic, infidel skoal chawing, cigar smoking, Ray Ban wearing, Armored Sons of the Great Satan (who, funnily enough - have saved more shia/sunni lives in the last 10 years than the rest of the world combined for all time)?
Ahmadinejad and his statements I make nothing out of except that everything he says is meant to inflame. He has stated his intentions, he wants armageddon and he will do anything he can to achieve it, we may have no choice in the end.
But we need to do everything possible diplomatically before making that decision.
That's because, from my observations, he sees Iran as being the catalyst of the apocalypse. I'm guessing he got that from reading Nostradomus, and his warnings of "a man in a turban," but I can only guess.
And not all of us dip Skoal, courtney. Some of us dip Copenhagen...
