We need to drill for USA oil whever it is. There should b o no off limits in this time of crisis. Why spend our dollars on oil with countries that hate us and our way of life.

People of these United states,
If we don't figure out a way NOW to reduce the price of oil, the middle class will not be able afford to go to work anymore! It seems to me this is the only way we are going to be able to make gas more affordable. I agree, we should have, by now, alternative energy. There is so much money in oil that most, if not all polititians have their hands in the wealth!

I keep saying this--uncap the wells currently capped--they're ready to go, have already been drilled and can provide the "bridge" we need until everything else is up and running.

go for it anywhere; anytime; but, particularly in some epa members back yard. I would never bash Mr Bush, anyone who could cause huricanes, earthquakes, but the US congress.. yes...yes..how about a repeat of your first 100 days???

Let quit draging our feet on drilling here in America and off shore. Also let's build some Nuclear Power plants; 70% of Frances power comes from Nuclear.

i have no idea what the hold up is. we need to start drilling here where we won't have to pay an arm and a leg for oil. let's put the money back in to the people's pocket and let's take it out of owners of these major oil corporations.

Chris, while anyone with a brain agrees with you regarding drilling, you are misinformed regarding the money. STOCKHOLDERS are the beneficiaries--and they are the people. Also, while the numbers sound big on the profits, they are actually minisicule--8% profit translates to 8 cents for every dollar. Not a lot--the majority of it goes for taxes and expenses.
And, today, the dems voted down drilling and releasing the strictures--straight up and down partisan vote.
I say drill anyway and screw congress.

I'm all in favor of drilling in Alaska and in the Gulf. It could be slightly helpful. However. . . Nobody should kid themselves that it's going to solve our energy problems. It will take years to bring that production online, and then it'll be a drop in the bucket compared to the size of our national problem.
Newt mentions Brazil. . . Yeah, but he fails to mention that Brazil's per-capita oil consumption is tiny compared to ours here in America.
This problem has been growing since the 1970s when US domestic production peaked and the USA first became a net oil importer. After thirty years of ignoring this problem, we can't simply fire up the drilling rigs and make it all go away now.
Ultimately, we need to begin powering more and more of our vehicles from something other than petroleum fuels.

Tony, you're partially correct. There are no truly viable fuels for vehicles at this time either and it will take as long if not longer to find them. Don't mention ethanol because ultimately ethanol isn't viable.
Further, there are many, many, MANY capped wells here in the US which could be uncapped and will bridge the gap until the full infrastructure is up and running again.

Time to use all our resources and drill for oil now. We also need to produce other energy resources that are available--

THose of us who live in rural areas where there is no public transportation have no option for getting to our jobs but to "pay the price" for gas, or use up our savings and then eventually look to the government to supply our food and medical care. We would much rather be able to support ourselves for as long as we live on the resources we have worked hard to accumulate and be able to keep our pride. Let's first uncap the wells that are sitting in our "backyards", then get to drilling, and not only provide gasoline and diesel fuel, but also jobs to employ thousands of people.

taxing the rich to give to the middle class as they cannot afford to drive to their jobs seems idiotic. Bring down gas prices so one can get to work, eat, heat our homes, etc seems to sound more American to me than increased taxes and regulation. I yearn for the freedom our country once stood and died for.

I am sick and tired of our government sitting back and doing nothing about this situation. The people of this country are sick of it. If I took this long to do a job for my customers they would fire me!! We have all had just about enough of no say and it is time to stand up and take what is ours. We the people of this United States pay dearly to run this country and the least our elected officials can do is take care of their own! Who is in control anyway. I was upset when they capped the wells many years ago. It literally destroyed countless families. I lived in Oklahoma at the time and it had a profound effect on my business and the town I lived in took a terrible hit. I didn't understand it then and as I look back I see the huge mistake our so called leaders made.
I am so impressed with Newt. He just makes sense. Why didn't he run for president? He is a way of getting the point across. Mr. McCain should listen up!!

I believe when we start drilling and
doing something positive instead of
the "nothing" congress is doing, we
will see relief. Are our elected officials representing us or the oil
producing countries that take our
money? It makes us wonder.
