This is a clear conflict of interest due to the obvious financial gains for Ms. Ifill and her book on two fronts.
1). This moderator will be in front of the world stage and by far the largest audience of her career garnering her increased media exposure and clout.
2). This moderator will be in a position to add effects in behalf of her obvious candidate of choice.
Knowing she stands to gain financially even her body language and posturing will be more favorable to one candidate over the other. She may even relish the chance to undercut one over the other and will likely do so - conscious or unconscious of it.
Then the whole story becomes about HER and not the candidates, just what she needs to $ell her book.
THIS IS NOT WHAT WE NEED NOW - not another obama GROUPIE who appears to be looking to cash in on her opportunistic spot.

I just don't understand. With all of the journalists who could moderate, why the heck would you pick someone writing a book with a favorable Obama tilt? She may do a great job moderating tomorrow, but the slightest action could be interpreted as bias. This is poor judgement on someone's part.
Why not just have Obama be the freaking moderator? This is just sad, unbiased media is dead!!! I am ashamed of what has turned into a mockery of an election.

’s basically a longer version of a magazine feature article. If Ifill had written a cover story for, say, TIME magazine, that involved her having access to Obama, is that a conflict of interest? No, because that’s what a journalist does, he or she writes nonfiction.
Most of the blathering of the conservative side of the blogosphere about mainstream journalists comes as a direct result of them not knowing what journalism is.
It was well known before the debate and before the moderators were picked that Gwen Ifill was going to be publishing a book titled “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama”
Back on July 21, 2008 The Huffington Post reported this along with the Washington Times on July 28, 2008.

The republicans had 2 months and 9 days to have a problem with Gwen Ifill. 24 hours before the debate I think is a little late.
Also McCain has the confidence in Gwen's ability to be a moderator

Hmm...if she discloses her involvement before the debate then won't that be giving her a ton of free publicity? While it may be questionable, if she says "Full disclosure, I've written a book about Barrack Obama and it's available in hard back from amazon.com on January 20th" isn't that giving her a free advertisement on one of the most watched events of the year?
Smart move, Ms. Ifill. No matter what happens, blogs like this one are giving your obama loving book all the free press you can handle.
It s so obvious that like most blacks in America, Ifill is so elated and wrapped up in Obama being the first African-American to run for president and win the Democratic nomination. Or wait all of you real African-Americans whose ancestors suffered the middle passage to places like Charleston, Savanah, or Virginia, and lived through post civil war America, through the mass exodus out of the south to the north and west coast. through the movement, and now coming home to your roots in places like Atlanta, GA. Obama's ancestors are from Kenya, and so is his father who was a Muslum. Obama's family could never identify with the Christian upbringing experience of a ring-shout. Obama may be half Kenyan or half black, but he is not an African-American. Obama is Kenyan and Irish-American. While all of you populist African-Americans think that this is the first time, a fellow African-American has been invited to participate in the highest offices in Washington, you have been led to believe that you belong to the Democratic party like chattel in a cage with no real freedom. Colin Powel served as Secretary of State, as Condeleesa Rice is doing. Thats right! The daughter of a minister who was a civil rights activist from Birmingham grew up through all of the hate and violence of the movement when two of her fellow church members were murdered in the name of racism. Why Condi has turned her back on her black populists that are stuck in the cage of chattel that thier Democrats keep them in. Condi, who is an intuletual scholor who came with in three steps of being President never once worried about what all the Democratic party's kept chattel would say. She is not a follower, she is a leader! Now thats the kind of progress that Ifill ought to write about.

I know its tough but maybe some of you should read my previous post or Kay's. Its not angry black women issue its not about race at all. If anything that would be bias it would be that Gwen is a women and so is Palin! Thats not fair to Joe at all either.
Mrs. Ifill will surely have a psychological advantage over Mrs. Palin due to her previous 'smirking' concerning Mrs. Palin's acceptance speech. Try erasing that from Mrs. Palin's mind, while she's being asked questions tonight.
I've seen and heard such awful bias by all the major networks that months ago, I stopped watching all news on television. Somebody's got a whole lot of 'news-readers' in their pockets.
Regardless of the outcome of tonight's debate, I will always remember this as the one that the press rigged.
I am opposed to Ifil and feel it is a clear conflive of interest and the Debate Commission should have removed her immmedialtey. Another set up to insure Obama wins the election, When does the bias stop?
