Once again, THAT talking dull... try actually reading the joint resolution that authorized our actions in Iraq, there were 23 reasons listed and ONLY one of which hasn't been proven yet.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/r...20021002-
2.html
There is the actual Resolution and in case you are too lazy to do the actual homework which proves your lies for what they are here are the top 7 reasons why Congress and the Senate authorized this war:
1. Iraq's harboring of Al-Queda terrorists
2. Iraq's support for International Terrorism
3. Iraq's "brutal repression" of its citizens
4. Iraq's failure to repatriate or give information on non-Iraqi citizens detained and captured during Gulf War I, including an American serviceman;
5. Failing to properly return property wrongfully seized during the Kuwait invasion
6. The attempted assassination of former President Bush in 1991
7. America's national security interests in restoring peace and stability to the Persian Gulf
Lest not forget the Democratic statements made BEFORE Bush ever became president:
“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998
“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”
Madeline Albright, Feb. 18, 1998
“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”
Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb. 18, 1998
“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D,CA), Dec. 16, 1998
“Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”
Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

Then we can look at the statements made by MORE Democrats before we invaded Iraq:
“There is no doubt that … Saddam Hussein has invigorated his weapons
programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue at a pace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of an illicit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies.”
Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, Dec . 5, 2001
“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical
weapons throughout his country.”
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27,2002
“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force– if necessary– to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002
“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10,2002
“There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years. We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.”
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002
Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal,
murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real”
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan.23. 2003
So, who lied again John??????

Explain those statements and do some homework before you make yourself look any more foolish than you just did.

YOU made accusations that the war was based on lies.. "I" just showed you it wasn't.
Considering the war is in the 4th year, that TOO is a lie on your part, anyone joining any branch of military as well as the reserves KNOW they will potentially be sent to Iraq.
Our military deaths have been cut in half since the surge began and progress is being seen at every level in Iraq, militarily and politically as we have shown and linked to on many posts.
Defeat is not a plan of victory and you are naive if you think a premature withdrawal and surrendering Iraq would make our country any safer.
TRY LISTENING TO WHAT THE TROOPS ARE TELLING YOU and get off your "lied" meme, for no one lied and we are fighting to rebuild Iraq and deny them a safe haven.
Get a clue and try doing your homework instead of repeating tired old, debunked lies.

Did you even BOTHER to look at the dates john?

THOSE STATEMENTS WERE FROM THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION DURING BILL CLINTON'S PRESIDENCY.
Once again you are proving that you either didn't know that Clinton in 1998 was president, OR that you didn't know bill Clinton was a democrat ....either way, that shows you don't really know what you are talking about here.
“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

In the meantime, what have you got to say to the Democratic administration of 1998 and the comments and information that was handed down to the Republican president, Bush?
You lied when you said the the Democrats made those statements from information given to them from the Republicans.
Why would you lies about that?
Thats three lies you have deliberately tried to spread here on this thread.
This begs the question of: Can you not provide an argument based in truth?
Why do feel the need to lie if you are so sure you are right?

Okay John, you got all the answers. What should be done?
3700 dead is a unfortunate number but it is the result of war. I wonder how many babies are aborted each year? I bet you support that. They never "signed up" to be aborted.
200 civilians butchered almost every month. (2400 a year)
200,000 violent acts each year
$20 million spent TODAY on housing prisoners.
No, not Iraq, California. JUST CALIFORNIA
Where is lefty outrage about this?

John, you are on a right wing page, with right wing minded folks, surely you do not expect any one of them to bend and agree on anything. They reach into their bag and pull out the "lefty" comments and now, I wait with baited breath (not really) for the "liberal" comments to fly.
As offensive as I might find some of their comments, the beauty of it is this.....this is what America is about - the freedom to believe how you want, whether anyone supports your belief or not. FREEDOM. I defend the rights of the neocons, whackos, rightys, leftys, middle of the roaders, socialists, etc.. Each and everyone one of us have the right to free speech and the right to freedom.
Which one out of your list Spree was the lie? Cuz I am seeing more than 1, just want to know which one you felt was the lie.
Also, let's be honest here, there are just as many troops who are against this war. You can post comments from troops for it and someone else can go find comments against it.
I am an American, I support our troops BUT I do not support this ill conceived, profit generating war. (Profit generating for a lot of corporations conveniently tied to this administration). By the way, that is not bush-bashing. 3700 and counting John.

john goodwin | 09.03.07 - 1:44 pm | #
Anybody joining any banch of the military or reserves know their is the probability they will be going to Iraq.
Then the BIG lie, after being shown the quotes from the Democratic politicians in 1998, from Clintons administration, he said this:
who cares what the dem's said, they where supplied all the information (lies) by the republican admin.
So, either that was a deliberate lie or he actually didn't know Clinton was president in 1998, OR he didn't know Clinton was a Democrat.
Thhe lie, that those comments were supplied by information by the Republicans when those 1998 statements were made.
Honest? No, that is not honest, on record the amount of troops against the war are under 1/8 of the amount that support the effort and have spoken publicly about being left to finish what they started.
Again, I provided my sources, direct quotes, letters and interviews from the troops in Iraq as well as those that have just returned from Iraq:

deb,
I can remember the big rally that Ms Sheehan had March 17th, 2007. They promised to bring 1000's of Iraq Veterans who were against the war. I was there with the GoE.
I did not see the 1000's they said would join them. I saw 2 who were wearing some kind of uniform. Of the 2, one was outed as being a fraud. I am not sure about the other one.
The silent majority is waking up to groups such as ANSWER, Code Pink, MoveOn.org. These groups claim to be anti-war but they are ant-American. I am not saying that because they sell themselves as ant-war, I am saying that because the are Soros backed socialists.

Tell ya what Deb, here is a challenge for you right this second;
Here is 3282 from just one place, all active military men and women.
http://www.appealforcourage.org/...rg/

As an American currently serving my nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to fully support our mission in Iraq and halt any calls for retreat. I also respectfully urge my political leaders to actively oppose media efforts which embolden my enemy while demoralizing American support at home. The War in Iraq is a necessary and just effort to bring freedom to the Middle East and protect America from further attack.
You find me 3282 active military with a different message.
Can you or will you run from the challenge because YOU cannot produce as many active military as we just have?

John and Deb--don't spout death count numbers to me until you can explain the left's support of killing unborn children without due process under Constitutional law, from a Constitutional Amendment enacted in a proper Constitutional process while y'all try to get off death row inmates tried and convicted in lawful jurisprudence actions.
Further, how many MORE lives are destroyed daily with the experimental embryonic stem cell research when over the past 30 years it's been PROVEN time and again ADULT stem cells are more efficacious, provide more results and DON'T kill the ADULT.
DON'T even START with me on death counts until you can support your culture of death and the attendant bullshit of justification of murder of the unborn.

They seem to forget the majority cost of this war is for the technology that has KEPT our casualty rates so low to begin with--if it weren't for the intel technology (which certainly isn't cheap), we'd have an enormous body count. And yet they bitch about enriching corporations.
So what do they want--more body bags? Would that be acceptable to them so the money wasn't spent on the technology keeping those body bags to an absolute minimum?
Well, I for one say this--each and every troop death is a tragedy, yes, ABSOLUTELY---BUT...SPEND THE MONEY DAMMIT--and for those who think our troops are blind idiots who don't know what they're signing up for, PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES and quite treating them like idiot children--they KNOW what they're signing up for and they STILL have the courage to do so to protect YOU AND ME and our freedoms here at home.

I wonder if any liberal has the cojones to go tell a soldier that he/she are our "boys and girls"? I know many many armed forces and every single one of them would be offended. They are MEN and WOMEN, who take their jobs very seriously. They are very proud of what they do every day. That liberals prefer to look at them as juveniles is so denigrating. I suppose it makes their arguments more specious.

Everybody has a right to express their opinion and it should be honest and out in the open. They shouldn't hide behind a socialist agenda. When I saw these folks March 17th in DC they had a hard time rounding up an American Flag. When they did find a few, they had one hanging upside down and they were dragging another one on the ground.
Please Deb,check out the background of these groups. We will be facing off against them again in DC on September 15th. They don't speak for me and I hope they don't speak for you.

Didn't think she could match the numbers.
Once again, people speaking without being able to back up ANY of their "claims".
Dinner is four hours off Deb, yet another false assumption.

Deb, with so many sites (sarcasm) that support your ideal, why are you here?
As to "missing dinner to post this dribble", you might want to think about what you just said. As most liberals, you just "assume". It's what your party did in the 2000 elections when you called the polls closed in FL (a full hour before they closed in a large part of the state) because you were all too dumb to know that Florida has two time zones. It might be dinner time on the East coast, but there is a whole lot of the country that isn't on the same time as you.

Bob, I appreciate you giving deb the benefit of doubt but as I stand by and understand everything behind the organizations I listed, do you not think she stands behind those she listed? She DID list them after all.
If she does not stand by them, yet listed them, then that shows the height of irresponsibility.

"Being anti-war does not make you anti-American. That is where you need to get off."
Unless you are a veteran you are not qualified to make that statement. Ask someone who is laying their butt on the line so that you can make comments on a blog how they feel. Ask them if they feel that people like you embolden the enemy. Ask them if they feel appreciated when they hear about their government officials stabbing them in the back.

Ask them what it's like to spend their days in a pressure cooker while people say ignorant things like anti-war isn't anti-American. Wake up we are in war, where you are anti war or not. So don't pretend that you are a patriot red blooded American when people like you puff up the chests of those who want YOU and I dead.

Roger, I posted this before on a different topic but it needs to be repeated now.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself." Cicero (d. 43 BC)

John Goodwin, 3700 troops have sacrificed their lives and it'll only be a waste if we leave before the war is won. Your comments dishonor the fallen and the serving.
Did you see the video today of the troops and their thunderous praise of Pres. Bush in Anbar Province? Why do you suppose that is? Because they know Bush lied and their lives are being wasted? No, because they know they have a Commander in Chief they can trust and gets it.
Joe Wilson lied, not Bush.
So what's the big lie, John? The big lie is that a Saddam Hussein left in power would not threaten U.S. security. We know he supported the 9/11 attack even if he had nothing to do with organizing it. But let's say Saddam only killed millions of his own people and the humanitarian crisis, as well as U.S. money from the U.N. Oil for Food scandal that supported Saddam lining his toilets in gold while his people suffered and died didn't really matter.
Does this matter? Saddam had designs on nuclear weapons. He had them, used them in the past and was on his way to developing more. What would a future in Iraq look like with two demonic heirs waiting to take their dad's place? Qusay Hussein was head of the WMD program and Saddam's sons were arguably worse than he was.
Not to mention Saddam didn't keep the cease fire agreement from the 1991 war so the war technically never ended. We had every right to oust him.
And did you know Saddam tried to assassinate Bush Sr. in Kuwait in 1994? Clinton bombed a military site in Iraq as retribution, one of the few good things to come from the Clinton presidency. Trying to assassinate an American president, believe it or not, is cause for all out war all on its own.
The lie is that we shouldn't be in Iraq. The lie is that the war isn't winnable. The lie is that the world would have been better off under Saddam Hussein. The lie is that U.S. troops are victims and not heroic volunteers.
