Gravatar Al Qaeda's a foreign entity in Iraq. There's no reason to assume they could take over even Anbar province, let alone the rest of Iraq if we were to leave.

Gravatar It is called sponsoring terror.

We leave, someone takes over that provides a safe haven for al-Qaeda terrorists as Saddam did by giving aid, money and mediacl treatment to Zarqawi and that is documented beyond argument.

It is like you prefer to close your eyes to reality and pretend Greg and THAT is what got us attacked to begin with.

States that sponsor terror Greg, try looking it up and see how much trouble has been caused in the past by states that sponsor terror and compare THAT to states that do not sponsor terror and how THEY rarely if ever cause us hardships.

Pretending does make the bad go away Greg, ACTION does.

.

Gravatar Here, basically, is the difference. Two things you did not highlight:

"The United States is providing support to opposition groups from all sectors of the Iraqi community that could lead to a popularly supported government."

"Bringing change in Baghdad will take time and effort. We will strengthen our engagement with the full range of Iraqi opposition forces and work with them effectively and prudently."

Cheney/Bush thought he could do it on the cheap. Cheney/Bush took the cowards way, cold-cocking the bully and gloating that he beat him in a fair fight. "Mission Accomplished," indeed. Clinton, at least, understood that standing up to tyrants is a process. You don't just take out the tyrant, you get his public to take him out.

This is Cheney/Bush's war. It is not America's fight.

Gravatar In case you forgot the timeline here... Clinton did it before the organization that Saddam was housing part of (Zarqawi and others) hijacked airplanes and killed 3000 people... as situations change, so do our strategies Elmer.

Saddam provided aid, comfort, money and medical care to portions of al-Qaeda which in turn brught on a stronger action than Clinton needed to.

Gravatar Elmer, we're still waiting for an answer to THESE pearls of wisdom from you... Elmer: "It doesn't speak for itself. It shows that a whopping 97% of conservatives perceive a media bias. That pretty much skews the numbers for the rest of the survey. Cons are conditioned to think that there is bias in the media. It is part of their victimization culture. Nothing is ever their fault; the media is to blame.
Ironic that you would next link to an article about media bias from one of the most biased publications in print, which uses polling data from a firm that I have shown you can not be trusted."
Hawk: "OKAY, weisenheimer, name me ONE major media source that isn't biased."

Gravatar There are none. The writers lean one way or another, to me the better gauge is if they let both sides be seen before spinning things.

Gravatar Oh, I agree, but Elmer is so willing to spout things off so handily, I'd like to see him just once back something he's said up with some facts.

Gravatar I also don't cotton to being ignored, so until he answers that question, he's going to be ASKED that question...

Gravatar Zarqawi had nothing to do with 9/11. Bringing him up illustrates the poverty of your argument. If we are going to take out people who MIGHT do us harm we should start with our own white-supremacist community here in the USA.

Hawk,
Sorry I haven't responded. There is really nothing I can say that would satisfy you. We all perceive bias. I hope, however, you took note of the following from this very post:

"The second is to a LA Times article called "Congress isn't commander in chief" (Can you BELIEVE that this is in the LA Times?... Hell must have somehow froze over)."

Gravatar WE aren't the media, amigo. Put that little factoid into your head right now if you didn't have it there already.

Now, you want to defend Zarqawi?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu...usab_al- Zarqawi

Such nice friends you must have...

What you fail to understand, what you fail to SEE, and yes, I know it's not the "majority" of Islam, it's a part of Islam, is that these people want

us

DEAD.

Gravatar Great article. Your update "Congress isn't commander in chief", ... somebody needs to tell Congress that!
