This negative image of Reverend Wright's is being promoted especially by interests who desperately want to establish a racist "equivalency" in order to counter the political determination of those minority groups, especially Blacks, which they believe will encroach upon the liberties of everyday White Americans. Why should racist White voters ever have to confront their own racism now that they have a false sense of vindication in the form of a black boogeyman in Reverend Jeremiah Wright?
The bottom line is this: the typical bigoted white voter remain free to continue to feel completley justified in 1.) maintaining their bigoted views, 2.)voting against their own political interest, 3.) not having to bring themselves to vote for a black man.

I think the media has indeed overblown the whole Wright affair, taken from snippets of his speeches in his own church. I, personally, belong more to the Obama generation's way of thinking about race relations, a generation of blacks that believe that most issues affecting Americans, have to be dealt with as a package: education for all, healthcare to all, and zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind against any group of people.
On Rev Wright's public appearances, I believe that the reference he made that Obama is a politician was unnecessary. However, the beauty of America is that freedom of speech is a highly treasured right and we need to protect it, unless it is offensive or against another person's human rights.
The CNN televised NAACP speech by the Reverend was good. My husband (Anglo) and I listened to the entire speech, and we found nothing offensive in it. Rev Wright used a research-based approach, to make his points, as well as very pronounced gesticulations and a liberal use of body language, which I first was concerned about, but then found funny, and took as being creative and appropriate. I even learned one or two things from him, and thought, if I lived in Chicago, I might have paid a visit to his church, to take a break from the often dull and boring sermons that I have had to listen to throughout my past life as a Catholic, time and again.
I am optimistic (and hopefully not naive) as I believe that, in the end, Rev Wright's public appearances might diffuse the focus on Obama being a parishioner of his church, and make him solely responsible for his own words, thus, making certain segments of the population more neutral as to his role in the Obama campaign.

How many "whites" died to free black slaves? Excluding Abraham Lincoln, a Republican. Are you ever thankful for the whites that died so that you may be set free?
Where does Christ teach that Christians must demand repentence from the living for the sins of the dead? Does Christ not teach to forgive a brother seven times seven from the living? Does not Christ teach to leave the past behind and "Move Forward" putting all behind us?
How many black Sudanese died at the hand of Islamic ruled Sudan? By Arabs in Sudan? By Blacks? How many are still dying today? How many were in slavery even up until this decade? Did Wright send money to free them? I know of one church that did, led by a white minister, whose congregation is integrated and does not shout out racist comments based upon 100 year old wounds.
How many whites die today at the hands of blacks? Should whites begin keeping a tally? Keeping numbers? Demanding money for every white killed by a black person? Do you not understand where Wrights political policiy positions lead?

But let me explain something to you. My family had people in both geographic locations. One side on the Union, other side from the south. Truth is we don't know if our ancestors in the south ever had slaves. Truth is I was never taught to be a racist.
Now, what if my family from the union side lost people so that your ancestors were set free. Are you now ready to thank all the Union family soldiers for their sacrifices and put aside this petty, anti-Christ like behavior?
This is not just a white issue. Black tribes and Arabs captured slaves and sold them worldwide to Europe, America, and Arab tribes. So, then shouldn't you blame the Black tribes that sold your ancestors as well?
At what point does the bitter hatred and the blaming of others finally dissipate? There is not one single race that has not been put in slavery. Wright does not even realize that the Romans captured whites from all over Europe and forced them into the Roman army abroad.
If you really want to take a long look at history, the entire world is guilty of slave trade. The black tribes in Africa did it for hundreds of years profiteering off slave trade to Egypt, Iran, IRaq. Before America was ever born, or the whites ever were a power from Europe.
The Muslims traded slaves for 1400 years until now, still they kill and steal young children today. Who is trying to stop them? The "evil white" countries are forcing them to stop. In fact, America stopped slave trading long before other black tribes stopped trading to Muslim countries.
Wright needs to get his facts straight. Many died so that his ancestors and yours could be free. And America was among the first to free slaves long before the current day Middle East Arab, Islamic culture did.
Today in Africa, true evil lives on. Black leaders oppress and murder their people by the millions. From Congo to Chad, Rwanda to Zimbabwe. From Edi Amin to Mugabe. And what do other black leaders in Africa do? Do they stop it? Do they do anything to help without the constant insistence of America, Europe and mostly Christian nations pushing them?
Why is it that Islamic nations like Libya, Sudan, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Syria and so many others do not care?
Yet churches with a white majority all over America send billions to Africa? Send missionaries to teach Christ? Send missionaries to provide food, water, clothing, shelter???
Why are all these questions not answered by Wright? And why do you look past them?

I know about the Tuskegee Experiment. What you don't remember is that it was run by blacks on blacks. At any time after the discovery and distribution of Penicillin was any of it given to the patients? No. That was a decision of the Black Doctors who didn't want to stop the experiment. They said the experiment was to prove that diseases affect blacks and whites the same way. Duh! That had been proven years before by many doctors all over the world.
No. The doctors involved were receiving government money and didn't want to give it up.

You know... I've been to black churches. They did not teach this hatred. There is a way to reconcile with each other over past issues. Certainly I can recognize the pain suffered by many people. I do not deny there is racism on all sides.
But, the leader that reconciles us is not Wright. He embodies much of what is wrong in the world today. Ultimately only Christ can bring us together in humility. But that means both sides must humble themselves, not just one.
