In case you have forgotten WINNIE, we live in a Republic, the peoples choice is made when they elect someone, then it is up to the one elected to do what HE THINKS IS RIGHT, then if the people do not like it, THEN they can elect someone else.
I doubt they will though, mark my word.

While I'm skeptical regarding "about faces" in situations such as this, regarding Baird I'm cautiously hopeful, particularly in light of his statement "It could well cost me the next election--That's alright".
The new media records all things now, and we have had a job showing the hypocrisy of many, many in office and what lengths they'll go to in order to save their elected positions. This stand of Baird's shows a huge dollop of integrity on his part--that of an elected official willing to 1) open his mind and 2) when shown the error of his ways, being willing to admit when his ways need changing. In short, he's put his money where his mouth is and show his integrity.
We could actually use more like him.
Like I said, cautiously optimistic.
The Dems will eat their young without much prodding.
I remain skeptical that Baird will continue to stand up against the Defeatocrats.
Time will tell I s'pose but America seems to be infested with a particularly virulent strain of white flaggers in both parties.
