If we spent the billions to find and produce oil here on renewable fuel, such as wind and solar - we wouldnt need all the oil we produce. Reps/Dems alike, our future is in renwables, our past is in oil.
I actually agree with Chavez on this one. Nationalize the oil industry. And yes Dave, alternate sources is the end all of this discussion. In the meantime I think it would be a great idea to force automobile manufacturers to produce vehicles with much better gas mileage. The problem with this is that people would have to buy another vehicle. Either way, alternate sources of energy; wind, solar, thermal, etc. would all help to alleviate the current dilemma in an environmentally friendly way. Just like each person has only one body, we all only have one Earth. I find it ridiculous that off-shore drilling is an option when huge amounts of oil on our mainland has not been drilled; and I don't mean Alaska. What about the Barnett-Shale oil field and others? We also should build/repair our refineries thereby reducing the cost of our outside oil shipments. Although it is an environmental hazard, nuclear energy should be looked at as well, except that we couldn't pummel Iran with negative press if this was the case. As to the article, I would not look to Palin for advice. She's on the Conservation Commission yet her husband is a driller. Can you say conflict of interests?
Of course Sarah is for drilling, she is for anything to help the oil companies. How about a little "America first!" Not "Exxon first." Lets drill in the millions of acres we already said was the place to start drilling. Why would we drill in the high risk, high environmental impact areas first? They want to start drilling in the places we marked as the last places to drill! We have the oil in existing contracted areas, Anwar and offshoar don't offer more oil they only offer an increased profit for the oil companies. That should not take priority over the best interest of the country. Drill, Drill, Drill the existing contract firs! America first!
Maybe you should read how Palin actually BUCKED the oil folks as well as Dick Cheney, before making assertions that have already been debunked by Washington post.
