I go back in a heart beat. I'd easily take an FSO appointment in IRAQ although I'm probably not "quote unquote" qualified. I know I could do the job. The main thing is I would understand the circumstances of the job and for wouldn't be whining about it. They should fire all the FSO that didn't want to go. Period.

@Richard,
Please register (here: http://careers.state.gov/officer.../register.html)
for and take the FSO exam at the earliest opportunity. If you are a U.S. citizen over age 21 and will be under 60 at the time you are appointed, then you're "qualified."
If you're truly interested in serving in Iraq in a civilian capacity but aren't necessarily interested in a career as an FSO, look here: http://careers.state.gov/iraq-jo...jobs/

I spent some time in Iraq working with the Iraqi Police a couple years ago. I lived in a number of places in Iraq at the time. Although it can be dangerous riding around outside amongst the locals, it was very rewarding work.
In fact, it was so rewarding that it gave me an appetite for foreign service to the point that I took the FSOT in December. I chose the consular track due to my backgroud in law enforcement. I am currently waiting to see if I am going to be invited for an oral assessment.
I would go back to Iraq in a heartbeat. The FSOs who signed up for worldwide availability who are now complaining about Iraq are disloyal to their country in my opinion, because their DUTY is to go to Iraq if they are sent. I'll be happy to take their place.
