I guess there must be one or two persons who have suggested a question on this theme. It's damn hard to counterpunch in the format agreed for this townhall debate.
What part of Ayers trampling on the flag on the Chicago Magazine cover of September 11, 2001, did Obama not understand? What part of the story that went with the cover was unclear? Maybe I'm being unfair . . . after all, Barack "Clueless" Obama seems to have slept through his pastor Jeremiah Wright's sermons for 20 years . . . .
This is a sham. Obama was living in New York (at Columbia) in 1981, the year of the Weather Underground Brinks robbery when they stole over $1 million and murdered 2 police officers and a Brinks guard. There was a huge amount of publicity about the case in New York for the next 2 years. How can Obama claim no knowledge? He was WAS 20 YEARS OLD not 8 and living in NY. Obama may have been 8 years old when Ayers and Dohrn started the Weather Underground, but their violent activities and bombings continued through the 70s and into the 80s. The Vietnam War was over in 1974 and their activities continued. What was their excuse then?
Obama hid his long term relationship with Ayers by saying he's just a guy in my neighborhood. If there is nothing wrong with this relationship, why is he hiding it?
If you were running for a position of public trust, representing American citizens, would you launch your career at the house of 2 domestic terrorists, one of whom said he wished he had done more bombing?
What if McCain was friends with, worked with and took money from Timothy McVeigh who bombed the Federal Building in Oklahoma City?
Ayers wasn't involved in the Brinks robbery, having gone underground around 1970 or so. With all of these character/personal history attacks coming up in the campaigns, there are a lot of pundits pretending that they're intimately familiar with details of 20th-century history that they in fact didn't know until they scanned Wikipedia five minutes before going on the air. Let's not do the same.
McCain will show class and be courteous. As Churchill wrote: "When you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite."

Anyone trying to practice apologetics for Ayers will be deleted. The man may not have killed anyone--however, he also admits he wishes he'd have done more. There is nothing good to be said for a completely unrepentant domestic terrorist.
I bet he doesn't know Rev Wright is going to preach this sunday at his church (ya know the one he still belongs to cuz wright retired)! Check out their web be sure to look at their mission Africa is mentioned but not America and look at all the other stuff! If you replaced white for every time they say black the press would be calling it a Klan meeting!
Obama knew very well about Ayers past (not to mention Rashid Khalidi), and I think All of America knows that by now. He just get's himself in deeper in the hole everytime he tries to deny it-or tries to put a "positive" spin on it.
