Once it's all said and done, the delegate count needed to secure the nomination will be on a scale between 2026 (low end) and 2210 (high end).
Barack Obama will have the amount needed soon after the primay process is completed on June 3. The super delegates will make their move by Friday, June 6 at the latest.

This is so tiresome. The rules are the rules, just as the law is the law. We can't put our signatures to a thing, then become the spoiled brat when things don't go our way, throw tantrums and expect people to let us prevail. I'm an old, white woman. I was for Hillary but she is a disgrace to women, to the United States. Obama is clearly more intelligent and has far better intentions.

If the DNC cuts my vote in half, the Dem. will only get my primary vote the Nov. vote will be for a Rep.! Yes, I can live with that, BUT CAN YOU ALL OF YOU LIVE WITH THAT?
Well Molly, according to YOU rules are rules and in the DNC RULES, states that move their primary forward only get HALF their delegates cut and it was HOWARD DEAN that changed that rule AFTER Michigan and Florida scheduled them, so how about acknowledging that and insisting the DNC follow their own rules?

DNC Rules on Selection of Delegates (On page #24 of the PDF file), Rule 20(c)(1), headed Violation of Timing- both states would suffer the loss of 50 percent of their pledged delegates.
The exact wording:
Violation of timing: In the event the Delegate Selection Plan of a state party provides or permits a meeting, caucus, convention or primary which constitutes the first determining stage in the presidential nominating process to be held prior to or after the dates for the state as provided in Rule 11 of these rules, or in the event a state holds such a meeting, caucus, convention or primary prior to or after such dates, the number of pledged delegates elected in each category allocated to the state pursuant to the Call for the National Convention shall be reduced by fifty (50%) percent, and the number of alternates shall also be reduced by fifty (50%) percent. In addition, none of the members of the Democratic National Committee and no other unpledged delegate allocated pursuant to Rule 8.A. from that state shall be permitted to vote as members of the state’s delegation. In determining the actual number of delegates or alternates by which the state’s delegation is to be reduced, any fraction below .5 shall be rounded down to the nearest whole number, and any fraction of .5 or greater shall be rounded up to the next nearest whole number.
if the DNC had left the original penalty in place for states that broke the rules, instead of trying for a power play by changing their own rules, especially in Michigan where they didn't take the official vote to strip ALL the delegates vs half the delegates until December of 2007 AFTER Michigan already scheduled the primary, then the Dems wouldn't be in this mess.
The decision to do so in Florida wasn't officially voted on until August 2007.
Obviously because the DNC rules had the "violation of timing" penalty written in, they had already planned, years ago, for some states to break the rule if they were willing to suffer the consequences.
So the states decide, also decided they could handle receiving half the delegates, then the DNC changed the rules midstream.
