Gravatar The "debates is back on" is BOGUS. Even Shell the OIL COMPANY agrees that the "debate is over [we are causing global warming]").
See http://www.dailykos.com/story/20...300/1006/ 553277 where -
... this guy and the couple other folks quoted are only actually part of 1 of 39 subgroups in the APA. Furthermore, even in this Forum on Physics & Society, the most quoted person, Jeffrey Marque, is just a newsletter editor while a majority of the respondents argue in favor of anthropogenic global warming.
... The header of this newsletter carries the statement that "Opinions expressed are those of the authors alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of the APS or of the Forum." This newsletter is not a journal of the APS and it is not peer reviewed.
... Considerable presence? And yet the "paper present" is written by a business consultant journalist sans physics Ph.D.

Once again, with just a little fact-checking it's clear that Drudge, some in the APA Forum on Physics & Society, the Daily Tech and the parroting media in "the-science-is-out-land" are lying about the climate of the scientific community on global warming.

Gravatar Climate change has been around since the earth, this fear based Chicken Little thinking is not science.
Although i believe oil is not sustainaable in the future, we need to develope alternative energy, including nuclear. I have been a nuke advocate since the 70s, if only we had not listened to the raving lunatics back then

Gravatar Just more evidence that human induced GW is far from over. Did you know that 95% of Green house gases are from water vapor. Only 3% is from CO2. And there is contrarversal eveidence that it is from human activity and that it even matters. There are Sun acitivites, geological plate shifting, inaccuracy of models, inaccuracy of land based data monitors (especially when Satellite data has shown no change in the last 18 years in temperature) and many other factors that contribute to changing climate. Do we want to spend trillions of dollars when we don't even know if we are contributing? This just shows that many scientists still disagree as to what our role is, if any.

Gravatar Why in all of this discussion is the subject of study of geoengineering to put global warming on hold not made a part of the "melee." Surely, if one accepts that we have warming - from whatever source, then it would seem to be worthwhile to look at ways to slow, stop or reverse the process.

Gravatar Because you can't control the sun and to think otherwise is simple arrogance. Warming could also be called "spring and summer" as the earth rotates on its axis through the seasons, something its been doing since time immemorial and will continue to do regardless of what humans think they can control.

Gravatar For Miss Beth: You're very right that we can't control the sun. But the Earth only intercepts a small part of the energy the sun emits. And we can, if we so elect modify our acceptance of that radiation and we can do it on time frames that are years and not centuries or millenia. These changes related to orbital parameters of the Earth do occur. But man has overlayed this with our industrial revolution. And Mother Nature does it inadvertently every time there is a large volcanic eruption.
And so, I suggest tht we study the details of how man can add one more layer - to geoengineer the climate in the short term.
If you are interested I'll send you papers by the National Academy of Sciences and Paul Crutzen on the subject,

Gravatar The religion of man-made global warming (MMGW)is as great a threat to freedom of speech as radical Islam. They both want to silence any opposing opinion. The Main Street Media(MSM) is totally biased in favor of MMGW and are guilty of jounalistic malpractice. I stopped looking at TV "News" a few years ago and don't subscribe to a newspaper. The religion of MMGW is the vehicle by which Communism will try to assert its control in the U.S. Al Gore may then become the first Communist president of the U.S. That would be after the confiscation of any "excess money" from anyone who was skeptical of MMGW. In order to prevent the destruction of the Earth by MMGW, a person's carbon footprint would be examined by a neighborhood committee. If the carbon footprint were too large and the person did not have sufficient green credits, he would be sent to a re-education camp.

Gravatar "this fear based Chicken Little thinking is not science" read "
man-made global warming is junk science"

It truly amazes me when cliches like this are tossed around by individuals who fancy themselves as well-informed and independent when in reality they are narrow-minded and dare I say paranoid. Thousands of the worlds best scientists have participated in the UN IPCC studies, which have been supported by research and the opinions of the National Academy of Sciences, The Royal Society (UK's equilvalent to the NAS), NOAA, NASA, EPA, American Geophysical Union, and worlds best universities; but, somehow this extraordinary scientific consensus is written off as some kind of global conspiracy perpetrated by the media, elite egg-heads and Al Gore.

Gravatar APS Position on Climate Change Remains Unchanged

The American Physical Society reaffirms the following position on climate change, adopted by its governing body, the APS Council, on November 18, 2007:

"Emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities are changing the atmosphere in ways that affect the Earth's climate."

An article at odds with this statement recently appeared in an online newsletter of the APS Forum on Physics and Society, one of 39 units of APS. The header of this newsletter carries the statement that "Opinions expressed are those of the authors alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of the APS or of the Forum." This newsletter is not a journal of the APS and it is not peer reviewed.

Gravatar It truly amazes me the herd mentality and paranoia of the human species. It happened in the 70's when at that time the concensus amongst scientists was that we were heading for another Ice Age. Look it up. Now the herd is begin driven in the opposite direction.
There is no consensus. Take you heads out of the sand and investigate yourself...stop listinening to what others think. That's what the internet is for. There is no global warming consensus.
Take a look at these two websites to start learning. (there are so many more)
This one shows no link between CO2 and temperat8ure for the last 700M years as well as normal CO2 cycles and temperature swings.

http://www.geocraft.com/ WVFossil...us_climate.html

This one shows the inaccuracies of the data we're taking. There is no warming according to satteliite data in the last 20 years:

Gravatar Right on Steve!

Gravatar Coal comes from buried plants and animals. Which means that all the CO2 trapped in coal used to be in the environment. Take the last 200 million years. Billions of tons of CO2 have been removed from the environment and trapped underground. Has the earth gotten steadily cooler? No, at the end of this period, we've seen erraditc and dramatic cooling and warming periods and ice ages. And all the time more erosion and more plant material buried. Now the environmentalists want us to believe that t returning this carbon back into the environment, back to where it once was will caused world wide destruction. These people are lunatics.

Gravatar James, Miss Beth, and Steve are clearly smarter than all the scientists in the IPCC, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, NASA, EPA, and all the major universities in this Country. They've got the Internet and common sense; the world is their oyster. We should all follow suit. Boy, do I feel better.

Gravatar I love how jw thinks he speaks for everyone. And that dissenting opionons are to be ignored. The IPCC is concoction of the UN..now that's a world body to trust. The UN has done so well with Iraq, Africa, and all other disasters in the world. jw..You may trust the IPCC/UN but that makes me trust them less.
And as far as there being a unified belief in the other agencies you mentioned, is just ignorant. The press may not like to report the descent within these bodies, but it is substantial. That's why if your not part of the "herd" you need to research for yourself. Try it...you may learn something.

Gravatar For someone so allegedly smart, you sure don't read directions well. See where it says no anonymous posts?

Yeah! But the un-ipcc would not lie,now would they?
