You know that I have an opinion on this one 
Every time I have heard this today, I keep visualising this old guy, and 5 burly cops in the room.....Just like the Polish would-be immigrant story where 4 RCMP cops tasered this man to death, I have to think that the officers present could have subdued the 82 year old easily, without resorting to tasers. But hey, the good part? At least he was in a hospital at the time, with medical attention available immediately.
In a related note, Canada is holding a major enquiry right now into the use of tasers.. Strange and wondrous times we live in.
It is madness. It is not the first time society has gone mad. But now we are all a part of it and we just don't give a damn.
