These girls and the two boys need to be put in prison. I don't care how old they are. They are at the age of accountability. I would like for someone to grab the one by the pink pants and put her in a cell for 20 years. She deserves anything and everything that happens to her. She is a disgrace to mankind. Good luck to all of you and I hope you rot in jail.

These girls should be tried as adults. They know better than that and if they were put into this position they would want the same thing! I think that the girl in the pink pants and the girl with the red shirt and the girl talking smack to get everyone going should be stuck in jail for about 20 years and be beat in jail and then they will get the full flavor. There is no need to act like a hard a$$. You are not impressing anyone but the people you most likely after high school will not see! I have been done the same way in high school except I caught them one by one and beat the living day lights out of each one individualy. They are not so bad when they are by them selves!!!! I hope big bertha gets a hold of these girls in jail and make them her B*tch! Rot in jail girls have a nice life and I hope if was worth is because Karma always catches up! At least this will begin to instill in people the fact that women are JUST AS VIOLENT as males. It's high time that the domestic violence laws in this country make a radical change in a way that has something to do with the real world. With the 'must arrest' policies in this country & the bias against males, a woman can beat the crap out of a man & then if he calls the police- he goes to JAIL- why? because no one BELIEVES him & that women are oh, such precious victims.. defending themselves.. BS! You would think these people that make these laws have never met an actual female. Jesus Christ.

Listening to the comments of the mother of one of the girls who beat the victim makes me understand where her daughter gets her violence. The mother thinks that because the victim posted some nasty comments about the girls on her MySpace page, her daughter was justified in participating in the "fight." I don't call that a fight. I call that evil. The parents of these kids should be held accountable too. NOTHING justifies that type of brutality.

"I am afraid that everyone is blaming youtube, myspace and such."
Did anyone read "Lord of the Flies"?
How is allowing children to form their own unregulated society online likely to have any different results? This makes the already difficult job of being a parent just that much harder.
It creates a huge magnification of the tendency for children to be dominated by a clique. As in Lord of the Flies, without an adult to put their base impulses into a positive context, children are going to act on those impulses.
It is a fact that these sites actually PROMOTE this type of behavior within their membership and reward it with popularity. Bear in mind, these are cheerleaders exchanging "You are a slut" insults - obviously they are concerned with popularity. So why NOT punish an insult and increase your popularity all at once? It makes so much sense .... right? (of course not, but what about being a kid makes sense?)
Honestly, the internet is not really suited for children. It is really an adult tool, but for some reason people believe that children should be treated as if they are rational adults when it comes to internet access. Instead of accepting the reality and designing a more restrictive network for children - we keep trying to make the internet "safe for children". You can't do that and still have an internet.

Kent, if parents took the time to watch their kids and what they did online and take advantage of the tools available to block access to any site the parent deems fit, then the Internet would not be a problem.
We cannot cast blame to anyone except those responsible, the children for attacking the girl and the parents for not teaching them right from wrong.

The key points here are that these teens were old enough to know better, but chose to do otherwise. They do need to be held accountable. We can blame the parents, but is it really the parent's faults? Maybe for a couple this could hold true, but not for all of them. I don't think that they realized that filming this and doing what they did would bite them in the butt, and would be used against them.

You must blame society for this. We can blame the Parents. But they can do only so much. There are too many influences for parent to contend with TV media sensationalizing violence, Movies, internet, even our own country
’s history of violence. Children learn by example. Some will always take it to the extreme if they feel as if nothing will happen to them. Remember our children’s behavior is just a reflection the adult’s behavior in our society. Do not get me wrong, they must be held accountable for what they have done. I do think their parents should also be held finally accountable for what they have done. No one deserves to be hit let alone what this girl went through. I am just thankful they didn’t take it to an end with no way or returning. She is alive, she has that much. Just my thoughts.

I am totally disgusted. This video reminds me of a person being surrounded by a pack of wild dogs. What would you do if a wild dog attacked you. You would defend yourself by covering up your face and body with your hands all the while hoping the other wild dogs don't join in. These girls need to be taught a lesson and go to jail for a while. We need to take care of this now before more copycats follow. I don't care if this girl called them names or left negative information about them on the internet. I am sure they have were not 100% innocent of never saying a negative thing about someone. This is what teenagers do. They do not intimidate 1 girl by luring her to someone's house and then attacking her one by one. Whoever justifies this including the parents of these girls and 2 boys needs to have their head checked by a psychiatrist and have their kids taken away. They are not fit to parent if they try to justify their kids actions. There is absolutely no justification in this vicious attack.

This is just horrendous. I agree with those that say, this is the fault of the teens, not society not the parents. These people chose to do what they did. I remember being 15-16 years old, people said stuff and it hurt, sometimes it lead to a fight. But it never led to ambushing someone at the place they are staying, beating them sensless and then taking them for a ride and throwing them in the street. That is the type of stuff you see in Somalia and other 3rd world countries where law and order is made by those who have the guns. Not in America. These girls (and guys even tho as look out I sure they will get a lesser sentence) deserve the book being thrown at them. And anyone who thinks the beaters were justified, I challenge you to look back to your childhood days and see if you did something like this, when someone made fun of you, or said something about you, you did not like. This is pathetic at best, and these girls deserve more than they will ever get man.

If these kids get away with this then it's going to be a sad, sad, day for the victim. They need to be tried as adults, convicted as adults and serve time. People should tell them over and over what they did was wrong. I don't know what kind of financial situation these kids come from but the parents should not be able to buy their way out of this. If this was my daughter I would be so outraged there's no telling what would happen. To the parents of the victim I feel for you and you are in my prayers because I can just imaginek how hard it must be to refrain from taking avengence.I hope the courts do what's right put these heartess, cruel, gutless pieces of trash in jail!!!

Charge them as adults and then send them to prison. It's not the parents fault, it is the fault of these young people. They must take responsibility for their actions.
These young people are the worst sort in our nation. They are the opposite of what a young man or woman should be.
So she posted some criticism of them on the internet. That was just words. Now their names should be published and they should see the criticism that the world is giving them. What are they gonna do? Beat us all up?

To me, this is the most sickning thing I have ever witnessed. Or atleast one of the most. Teen children are out of control these days. I myself, being the age of fifteen, I see it everyday. Girls in my grade, calling eachother out and fighting because someone was "spreading" or "talking **** about them.
It's horrible. I've never been in a fight. I take boxing, I wouldn't dare fight outside of it because look at what happens. No one fights fairly its just....ugh..really upsetting. My heart goes out to that poor girl.
My friend got in a fight and two othergirls got involved by ripping her hair so she fell to the ground and booted her in the ribs. Other wise, the girl she was fighting wasn't really doing much damage besides slapping her around and pulling her hair. But the biggest problem was the bullying that came after. I always came home crying because everyday my friend wanted to commit suicide from the girls at my school.
It really hurts to watch those videos and even just read about it. It does. No one relizes the emotional and clearly in Miss Lindseys case, the physical damage it does.

This is not as uncommon as you might think. A lot of people are shocked by this because it's one of the few times that has been taped and broadcast around the country. When I was in Jr High I was also beat by 4 girls because I looked at them the "wrong way". I think they just did it because they could and not because of something I did.
Kids are always going to fight but doing it this way it's very low and gives you a glimps of what these girls futures look like. They do need to be tried as adults!!!
This girls are a mixture of bad parenting, bad blood and a violent society that is getting worst as time passes by.

This is a prime example of desensitized youth. You have to think though, these girls are modeling the things they've seen. TV, internet, and even every day life in school teaches today's youth to gain attention in any form and by doing anything to get it.
What they did to Victoria is disgusting, and they should be held accountable for this. As should the parents.
What these children (because they do not deserve to be called adults) don't understand are the reprucutions that will come in the future. Not just for themselves, but for their familes as well.
Not only am I angered by what they did, but it makes me pity them.
Victoria will be able to recover and move on to a normal life. These girls, they will always have to live with what they have done.

To the girls who did this - for those of us who've been on this planet longer than 15 years we are well aware of the following... what goes around comes around. It's called Karma. You've much to answer for. Let me just say, you ain't gonna like it when this comes back around.

There is something about this incident no one has touched on, not on news reports, not on talk radio, not here--I just haven't seen it.
It's a given this was planned and pre-meditated. That alone makes it a crime. However, while being planned and pre-meditated, it was planned to be exposed and "voted on" at youtube.
How often do you hear about criminals filiming their crimes and releasing them for public consumption? You don't--it would be way too easy to prove you committed the crime.
Yet, these young adults (not children, not adults) did just that--published and exposed their crime. This leads to two possible conclusions. 1) they simply didn't project far enough the reaction to their actions and this backlash is completely unexpected for them--which also underscores their inherent immaturity and 2) the possiblity of they KNEW they would be exposed, they KNEW there was a risk, and a high one, of being caught, they KNEW it would be everywhere--and they DIDN'T CARE. This would speak to an underlying arrogance that they are above punishment of the sort meted out to mere mortals.
They didn't care if they were caught. Now, why would that be? Possibly because everytime they've been caught in wrong doing before, they were told not to feel bad, it's not their fault, etc., etc., like the mother of one of the girls who can't face the fact her daughter was one of the attackers.
In short, no accountability has ever been imposed on them for their actions. So now, as they enter young adulthood, they have the arrogance to feel they are above the law, they will never be blamed or held accountable and they can get away with anything.

Clay Spradlin you are one of those ignorant sue happy freaks, No this is NOT bad parenting good grief there some ignorant people out there, almost as ignorant as the girls who did this......Kids fall into peer pressure all too often you cannot pin all bad actions onto parents, kids are gonna do stuff you would not tolerate. These kids knew right from wrong and need to pay accordingly. They were responsible for their own actions because they made their own choices. Some of the best parents have had children do stuff that was very much wrong. As far as punishment I personally would stickj these kids into a prison environment and let them get the sh*t beat out of them a few times and see how they like it.

MARKS EVil TWiN
So just because you have seen worse that makes it alright? I'm pretty sure what a bunch of drunk @ssholes do at a bar is alot differant than teenagers with planned out violence. Yes mark I call it violence. You want us to find forgiveness in our hearts for girls who don't even feel sorry for what they did. I'm sure if that was your little sister, your niece or your daughter it would be a differant story though. How do you think her parents felt walking into an emergency room && barely recognizing there daughter because her face was so swollen && black && blue?? What are they supposed to tell her little sister && brother when they ask what happened to Victoria??
I'm not exactly sure who you were talking to with your little sheltered remark but I grew up in Boston my whole life so you being from a rural town, your probaly one of the last people that should be talking about sheltered people who are sheltered. Ofcourse I can say Ive been worse, watch the news and see how many times boston comes up. We've all heard and have seen worse, but you have to start somewhere && this story has had a stong effect on people.
This poor girl can barely see out of one eye or hear out of one ear && was beaten so bad she was unconscious, I'm pretty sure it was more than just a "slapfight"
Maybe this is a laughing matter to your brother who thought it was appropriate to "lol" and "roll his eyes" but for most of us our hearts reach out to this young girl and her family. We are all intelligent people and realize there is much more && worse violence in the world but if this is what these girls are doing a 14 15 && 16 years old what will they be doing when they are actually adults.
I just wanted to make one remark to everyone, after this video came out on the news I did check Victorias myspace && I was happy when I found that she got comments of support && love from people all over the world. The problem is that you always hear of the bad outcomes from the internet, never the good. This girl has a world of supporters, she's 17 && that is a difficult experience for anyone to go through let alone a child but I believe that the love that she is recieving will help her be strong in her future controversy with this situation.

Bridget, I just checked Victoria's my space account as well. It's now locked down to "private", but has a blurb at the top saying this:
"victoria is just fine going to bed everyone see you tom. thanks for everything"
At least she won't be completely inundated with well wishers (not that that's a bad thing but can be very overwhelming) and yet has basically left a message for everyone who is concerned about her.
In regard to my comment above, I don't like blaming parents for everything, either--however, when you have one of the attacker's mother saying her girl would never do anything like this--even when it's shown to her that her girl did indeed do this--then you have to consider the possibility the parents are somewhat culpable. Yes, there are many, MANY parents who set boundaries andd raise their children properly and their children still grow up to be nearly unrecognizable as human beings. And yes, much of that is the result of the child's choices they make. However, in the case of these 6 girls and 2 boys, I have to wonder was a sense of right and wrong even instilled into them? For them to be so arrogant and so callous--knowing they were committing a crime and blatantly publishing it, showing no remorse, etc.--I would have to hazard a guess no, there was no moral compass instilled in these children. They obviously thought they could do whatever they wanted, to whomever they chose and not suffer any consequences--which speaks to a background of never suffering consequences or accepting accountability/personal responsiblity for their actions. And that does start at home.

I am so completely disgusted by these things, I won't call them people they or animals, they are entities all their own! I can assure you that if this had happened to one of MY children I would be serving time for either murder or attempted murder because there is NO WAY in HELL I would be able to contain my anger! I am just so overcome with emotion after seeing this video on tv that I don't even think I can think straight about it! There are too many of these videos poping up on the internet! Youtube, Myspace, Facebook, etc. all need to be held accountable for these videos because these groups offer a forum for this type of behavior. If they cannot police it, then they should either close the site, or hire a company that can police it. A similar event happened over here in NY at a school literally 2 miles away from me, Woods Road School, and those bitches also posted on Youtube!!! Oh, I am so angry! This is too much, WTF is wrong with kids these days? If I were a parent to any of these beasts I would turn my back on them and let them fend for themselves, I mean, it'a on video for godsake, it's not like my kid could tell me they didn't do it! They need to be locked up for the remainder of their days. The mother, Garcia, needs to get her head out of the sand and see what kind of creature she raised! Parents need to grow a set of balls and teach their kids what happens when they do bad things!

I am a teenager, and I can't believe that this would happen. If this happened to me, it would be horrifying and terrifying. Who cares if the violence was a slap fight or an all-out brutal attack, it doesn't matter. If I were lured into a house and then trapped, and beaten in any way, shape, or form by my own friends... I don't even know what I'd do. The situation is so foreign, so ridiculous that I don't know how I would react.
These monsters need to be tried as adults. This sort of assault requires time in correctional facilities. Either that, or give them long enough sentences that they can stay in Juvenile Detention until they are eligible to go to jail, and then go to jail.
Disgusting.

While filming and posting on the internet is something new, this kind of thing happened a lot when I was at that age.
But these kids are going to face some serious charges and I hope they stick, and that 18 year old is in DEEP!
They don't think about how assault charges on your record can inhibit your adult life, especially felony charges. Goodbye working in hospitals, schools, with children, elderly, etc.
I'd like to see examples made of them. Whatever they go through will be nothing compared to the physical pain she went through and that is nothing compared to the emotional pain, fear, and ridicule she will face for quite some time.

I notice from their "login dates" they've all been on their myspace pages today. Myspace needs to remove their accounts permanently, so they can't "brag" about what they've done. Did you notice they have Victoria in their "friends"?

I thought they were still in lockup... maybe told friends their passwords to check on stuff... I told Mercades Nichols that I would break every fucking piece of whatever was on the shelf, and let Victoria take her shots as she cleaned up grandmas stuff... That mercades girl... living with grandma... mom comes in during the spotlight of national media only... she sits there and is more worried about bumping furniture than injuring the girl... She is as guilty as the two offenders who struck the girl... followed by the three gawkers and the two posting watch out front... agreed?

My bad Miss Beth I am reading now. Just got into the message board. I will leave my comments at this -- The two girls doing the striking, and mercades should be punished to the maximum allowable. Then beaten themselves... The other accomplices should receive maximum punishment.. GOOD ON THE COUNTY SHERIFFS.... dont think I can ever remember a Sheriff so adamant about nailing these CRIMINALS.

ok, for the person who said this was just a slap fight. Tell that to the victim, who may not be able to see or hear properly for the rest of her life. Why is it that kids believe that they are indestructible these days? They can video tape themselves beating someone up and think "It's ok, mommy and daddy will protect us from anything. No one can do anything to me."
I'm 20 and I've never thought this way. I was brought up knowing right from wrong and common sense.
These kids obviously know neither. (Video taping they're own crimes is evidence of this) They need to learn that they are not indestructible and there are consequences for their actions.
They all deserve jail time for what they did. They're old enough to realize what they did is wrong, they should take the punishment then.
I'd like to see the video of them getting sentenced. See them laugh then.

Teens these days think that because they are under age they can get away with anything. I am starting to notice this trend more and more. Even my own cousins, they talk like they can't be touched. These teens who were involved in this brutal attack should be sentenced and do some sort of time, so other teens can learn from this and think twice.

Vicious savages. An example needs to be made of these young adults by the courts. Maximum sentences for each count. Then we can watch them blubber as they are being lead off to jail in handcuffs. This whole culture of videotaping violence, and posting it on the internet has to be addressed, and addressed with harsh punishment. I
’m not a big “Government get involved” guy, but the Government has to step up and do something about this rapidly increasing trend. And fast.

Quoted from Bridget; "BLAME THE PARENTS. PARENTS TALK TO YOUR KIDS, KNOW YOUR KIDS, KNOW YOUR KIDS FRIENDS, DONT JUST BE PARENTS BE THEIR FRIENDS". As a father 3 young adult 18, 20 & 22 I totally agree with Bridget. Today
’s parents are to busy or to lazy to be the parents that they should be. I had to make many sacrifices to ensure that I was on top of everything in my children’s lives! I gave them enough rope (freedom) to wonder and learn on their own, BUT I always had a firm grip on the leash! I made them do chores, get jobs pay rent after graduation, pay their own car payment and insurance. I always met any friends that were in their lives. Our house was the hang out place and every visitor had fun, but knew the limits. The parents of today’s teenagers are trying to be the kid’s best friend/buddy. They show there love by giving them money and gadgets. There is no discipline or accountability! God, youtube, My Space, or teachers...have nothing to do with it. The parents who brought these children into this world should do some serious soul searching and try their best to recover their roles as true parents. If they have any younger children in the house they had better make some serious changes and quick! If not, they will be revisiting the police station or morgue! Wake Up Americans! Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles, neighbors and Friends You see this behavior everyday and turn your Cheek.
BE THE ADULT...Intervene,
Take action!
Remember, violence does not solve violence Karma catches up with all of us.
** Yes I used a paddle/belt on my kid
’s! Not very many times but they still talk about it and remember!!! All 3 have thanked my Wife and I for doing so!** Some of their friends have told us that they wished that their parents had disciplined them.. Maybe their lives would have turned out better. Our prayers are with Victoria Lindsay and her Family

This is typical over indulged teen behavior. Our society has programmed parents to treat their kids more like buddies than kids and to never say no to your kid. As a result of this societal conditioning you get this abysmal behavior. There is no one thing to blame for this incident because one can make justifiable arguments stating its all the parents' fault, or TV or the internet. The fact-of-the-matter is that its everything. Teenagers are morons, always have been morons and will continue to be morons. Adults who become parents are idiots who most of the time don't have a clue on how to raise a kid. Or they are unwilling to take the time and energy to communicate and be involved in their kids lives because it seems that for many people having kids is more of a status symbol than anything else. TV does sensationalize superficiality, vanity, and violence. The internet is a haven for people to say whatever they want and to never consider the consequences. What those girls did is inexcusable and they all need to be punished severely. I say send them all to boot camp training, throw some fatigues on them, and ship them to Iraq. A few people on this message board said that kids think they are indestructible and do you know why many of them think that? Because they are told how great and special they are from day 1 and as a result they develop overinflated egos as teens and adults.

Has anyone looked up the phone number or e-mail address of the prosecutor for this case? Hopefully if the office is innundated with outrage people demanding that these 8 be tried as adults, the prosecutor will try to get the maximum prison time allowed. In addition, I think myspace needs to be innundated with e-mails demanding that the girls involved in the beatings pages be permanently taken down. I also think that their street addresses can be found and their parents can receive letters from other outraged parents about what their sociopathic children have done to that poor girl. Let them try to hold up their heads in public.

Wether or not they think they are tough....no girls should think higher then any others. Or fight or anything. Because you may say to those girls "COME TO THE CITY SEE HOW TOUGH YOU ARE" other girls may say the same about the girls from the city. It'll be a never ending battle.

BTW--this was just confirmed on Boortz--Sheriff Judd is in fact the sheriff who, when a deputy of his and the K9 assigned to that deputy were killed--the killer was surrounded by the sheriff and his team. 110 shots were fired and 68 hit the killer. When asked why they used 110 shots for this killer, Sheriff Judd said (and I quote)--because that's all the bullets we had.
He's not going to take this nonsense either.

I think the victims mother is right about when we all have our own decisions to make when we are not with our parents. We try to raise our children the best we can but what happens when the mother supports her child in the violence because of some petty words? Everyone has opinions. Myspace should not at all be accountable. We are raised in this country that we all have a freedom of speech and we all should voice our opinion. Some people take if further than others. I also agree with the victims father when he said that we have allowed God to be taken out of our schools and the rule out of the parents hand. God has taught us the ten commandments and Jesus taught us Love. Violence seems to have taken the spotlight in our households. Tried as adults? They think they are, why not?

Joshua, neither the girls nor the boys are going to get away with it. One of the "boys" is 18 and is an adult. These are felony charges all of them are facing and they aren't going to go away like shoplifting a lipstick.
Further, the victim and her family aren't going to need a lawyer until the civil phase of the trial begins and that will take place after the criminal phase. In the criminal phase, the State of Florida is the plaintiff on behalf of the victim and on behalf of the state.
By the time the civil phase comes around, there won't be a need to "look" for a good lawyer--they will be lining up at the Lindsay's doorstep to be the attorney for the fame. There's a lot at stake here and it could potentially shut down or severly censor sites like myspace, youtube, etc.
This will go beyond victoria lindsay and her family.

Gregory, there's already action on MySpace--this has "gone viral" and there's too much bad publicity, particularly coupled with a girl's suicide a few month's ago because a parent of one of her friends said nasty stuff to her on MySpace.
In other words, this isn't an isolated incident, just the most recent outrage. They can't withstand much more outrage. The suicide didn't make national news like this did. Already, all of the MySpace accounts have been locked down to "private". They were all open yesterday.
No, there will be some ramification, and it's not going to be pretty. It will end up being fought as a first amendment case and just where does that first amendment end.

I lived there 58 years till retirement. Oh what ever happened to this town? I used to walk from home to the movies downtown and ride my bike across town to the swimming pool all summer! What a wonderful town it used to be!

Ha, so I was watching Greta Van on the news earlier tonight and this Mercades girl's mom was on. She was saying how her child only participated because she was afraid to get beat up herself... yeah, her myspace comment doesn't really add up with that statement.

I'm praying for the girls healing and that she will come to know Jesus as savior. I'm praying the Holy Spirit will grab the other girls heart and bring them to remorse and repentance. The girls will have to suffer the consequences of their actions, but also I'm praying that God will bring about mercy and forgiveness in this situation. God can turn that which was meant for evil into good.

Thank God the victim survived this horrible attack but there is no question this is an attempted murder case. A jail term of 25 years to life is called for. Innocent people need to be protected from this evil.

People, can we have some sanity here? For God's sake, the comments here are escalating into desired violence themselves.
No, Darlene, it's not attempted murder. It's kids on a beatdown. And they're too stupid to have attempted to murder anyone because they taped it with the intent of publishing it.
Yes, they are being prosecuted as adults on felony charges. One is an adult.
Now, if you all want to do something productive to help this victim from this horrible, horrible action, write to the Polk County State Attorney here:
http://www.sao10.com/
That's the primary website. Don't indulge in hate mail to the families, don't indulge in hate mail at all. Contact the attorney and let him know how you feel and what you think should happen.
Preening online doesn't help the victim and doesn't solve the problem of these kids. Several years ago, there were incidents in central park--those kids were said to be "wilding"--and so are these kids. Is it right? No--HELL NO. Who's at fault? Parents, kids, tv, computer access/internet, social networking sites such as MySpace and YouTube--they are ALL at fault. There is no single person or thing you can point to, they all had their roles to play leading up to this.
Let's get some sanity back, please.

Amen Beth same thing I said a few comments above. There will be no encouraging hate mail. If people want to do something productive, they can email the sheriff and the DA, but realize if they are not polite, those emails will be disregarded.
Thanks Beth!

Oh my God. I heard about this in a class today. I am so disturbed by this. I am a mom of 2 teenage girls. I asked them if they know anyone who would even think of doing any of this act (luring, beating, videotaping, no remorse, ganging up and trapping). They said there is no way and that they do not know anyone who would consider anything like this. This is incredibly sad. When I think that it was 6 girls and 2 guys, not one or two, but 8 altogether ...not one of the 8 thought this was not a good idea? Not one of the 8 teenagers ever stopped along the way of planning this act, and actually doing the act to think maybe it was a bit cruel? Wow. I would be hating myself right now if I was one of the 8 teensagers' parents. I would disown my child. I am one who thinks we need God more in our daily life.

These girls deserve everything they get. It isn't attempted murder unless they killed her...and what if they did...they woudl be famous on Myspace and Youtube woohoo!!!
But really...they are bullies exibiting meaness and their parents are promoting it or allowing it. I knew a girl who bullied someone by steering her car into the other girls car...this was 25 years ago...this is not a new problem this is an old problem that lives in the corners of our lives and we just set aside and ignore. Now someone wants to put it on YouTube or MySpace and we can't ignore it and it is about time. Kids are mean...my own daughters MySpace was hacked into twice...it happens...that mother is stupid for thinking it wouldn't for God sakes that girl out west committed suicide because of a fake bioyfriend on myspace known about and created by another parent. Something is wrong and it is called BAD people that make it worse for the rest of us who are trying to bring our children up in chaos because so many parents do not give a damn. And to the Mar's out there...violence is violence. If your child or your mother was beaten would it matter how hard or to what level...she is still beaten. Hate and abuse has no color, no gender or religion...it is still hate and abuse.

I cannot begin to immagine the pain that this family is going through on the bahalf of the immaturity of 8 teenagers. As a sixteen year old girl, im used to threats being made on myspace. Honestly, I don't believe that myspace is as bad as most people make it out to be. However, it is because of these rare occassions that gives the website (that was created to help people connect) a bad name. Now don't get me wrong, i do not by ANY means think that this gives any justification to what those girls did to Victoria. Those teenagers involved should be charged even harder because they feel no remorse what-so-ever. When people behave like that is what makes everyone afraid to have children. When you see girls beating up girls all over myspace, you know things have gotten out of hand. What's even worse is that the parents of these 6 girls say that Victoria probably deserved what she got. NO ONE, and i mean no one deserves to have that happen to them. They knocked her unconscious, waited until she worke up, and then started beating her again. People who agree with what those girls did must have no morals. And as for those girls who are laughing about it and asking if they'll be able to go to cheerleading the next day seriously need some Jesus pounded into them....hard. They have no concience. They could have killed her, how do they not feel remorse for that? This blows my mind. I really wish that there was something i could do for the Lindsay family. They will certainly be in my prayers.

Something that no one has mentioned yet is what choice did the victim have? If she was really ballsy and tried to fight back they definitely would have killed her. She really had no choice but to stand/lie there and take it.

First of all I have never believed in trying minors as adults there was a reason the laws existed. Yet when you see video like this it makes you realize our society has deteriorated to that point. Yet it all comes down to parenting. No its not my space its no worse then the gossip passed around school. It is the complete lack of disciplining children and obviously the kids are so used to getting away with virtually anything. The parents didn't discipline there children and they should serve the sentence the same as their children.

I have read through quite a few of the comments and I find I have to disagree with anyone blaming the internet or the parents. Sure in some cases poor parenting may very well be the culprit, but for 6 girls and 2 boys? Clearly it was peer pressure. I am 18 years old, and when I first started in High School I was no saint. My Father is a great Dad, but I still did some pretty riddiculous things. When it comes down to it, we need to stop calling these girls Kids. They're not Kids, they're young aduls. When you say kids it tends to make people think of innocence and makes the situation an audacity. They're 16, 17, 18 years old. THEY KNOW BETTER than to do some petty arena bullsh!t. They got together, sat down, and said "Lets beat this b!tches a$$ and fu(kin post it on youtube!" Peer pressure and stupidity.

I feel so bad for the young girl who received the beating. All I can think is my daughter going thru that. My heart really go's out to the young girl. They should get charges as adults, because these young ADULTS are our future, and that is really scary. These young people don't have anything better to do in their lives? But if justice is serve they will get a rude awaking because being LOCK UP is not a joke, the things that happen in there is no joke. Sooner or later reget will hit them. We as people don't think until the damage is really done, and they will pay one way or another, because in this life I believe we pay for things, if there good or bad. And sometimes close one to us pay for our bad deeds. I hope the Young Girl is doing well and I hope she gets better soon, and I hope she will over come this and lead a normal and health life style. My prayers are with her and her family. Get better soon.

This video gave me nightmares! I couldn't get passed the firs 3 punches as this girl pleaded for her life. These girls should all go to prison for the rest of their miserable and hateful lives. It is appalling to hear that at least one of the girls has no remorse and her mother tried to defend this evil act. No wonder the girl is the way she is! Like mother like daughter. Now I hear that this poor girl has damage to her sight and hearing. If this isn't a life sentence I don't know what is. Put these girls in the same room with six gang members and that will be justice for all!

To all those people who keep commenting about what (unmentioned violent acts) they would do to these young adults if it had been their daughter, I call you hypocrites. How can you sit there and say that you are disgusted by 6 young women beating another, when you would retaliate with violence yourself!
Yes, they deserve to be tried as adults and persecuted to the maximum, but beating them as punishment will not teach them not to beat. I'm not saying that mild physical punishment is not effective for children, but these young adults are no longer children.
There are a lot of posts that speculate who/what is at fault. We are all to blame! All of society has sat by idly while our world has degraded. Although it was not us nor our progeny who performed these acts, we are not innocent. Too many of us sit watching and thinking that it is not happening in "our little world," so it is not our problem. We are so focused on our lives and our priorities that we have forgotten about looking out for our neighbours and communities.
I hope that these young adults find remorse for their actions. I hope that the young woman scarred by these events will have the strength to overcome the emotional and physical trauma she has endured.

I think they shouldn't be tried as adults, although they should go to jail, and receive the maximum punishment. I do not believe that putting these kids in an adult prison would be the answer, but they should spend time in juvenile hall and suffer the consequences. I was horrified to see that video, and learn that so many people were involved. They are all a bunch of cowards to gang up on one defenseless person. These kids were so ignorant to think that this video would not land them in jail. Who was the instigator? And how could all these kids agree to participate like a pack of hungry wolves? These kids acted so evil, and showed no compassion or remorse, and after watching that video this act of violence has been disturbing my sereinty all week because I worry what the future holds for my 10 month old grandaughter. For god's sake, these are young girls that obvioulsly have so much rage to plot, and act out in such a violent way. I am disgusted to learn that one of the mother's of the attacker's justisifes the beating. This mother should keep her mouth shut.

I think they need to do jail time. If they get off this they all will think it is ok to do this again. And I did my fair share of fighting gowing up and this is not fighting they had it planned. What is the difference between what they did and other kids planning horible school attacks. In my eyes they knew what they was doing and planned it they need to pay the penelty of their actions. The parents that say it is ok what are you thinking you need to be held responsible too then. Six agaist one isnt fair no matter who you are. I am a mother know and that was horrible to watch I showed my child just so he can see and talk to him about this. They all need jail time for what they did and for the comment on myspace that shows they dont care.

I honestly feel sorry for all parties involved here...teenagers these days are brutal and it keeps getting worse. I feel sorry for victoria for getting beat up but I really feel sorry that a group of girls have such low self esteem that they have to act like gorillas and beat up a sixteen year old. That girl is like 100 lbs if that. Sad, and if I were any of those girls parents I would be so embarassed of the way I raised my daughters. I mean kids make mistakes, but this goes right to the way they were raised. No excuses for acting like this, none!!! I blame the parents, these girls are probably the biggest losers i've ever seen in my life.

As much as i hate to say this its true..although they are not ALL as bad as this one these things happen all the time and at any place sometimes even at your own home when you are not present many of them just herd of and not seen by many luckally this one was... and the victim will atleast get some justice for in the other hand if this wouldnt of got out the way it did no justice would have been made for all we know the girls might have threated her if she said anything and the daughter might have not said anything to her parents afraid that they might do it again...im 18 now but i can honestly say that up untill high school i got bullied and never told my parents because then it would give those girls a more of a reason for them to want to fight me. i ask you parents to please watch out for your children im also not saying that you should be all over them but make them feel confident about them selves and confident enought to talk to you this way you can help them out even if you have to go do something your self about it im pretty sure their are many ways to solve problems but i later learned that communication is one of the best ways to get through people and try solve problems.

I have 2 girls, one just became a teenager, and one is a young adult, like the girls in the video. If either of my daughters or my son committed such an atrocity I would take them to the police myself, as my father would have done to me.
I see a lot of blame being passed around about who is at fault. TV, Internet, Parents, but only a few hit the nail right on the head. IT'S THE TEENAGERS FAULT. The girls who committed the violent act. They are the ones who made up their minds to commit this act and then video tape it. OMG!! What were they thinking, if they were even thinking at all???
Some people are also thinking an eye for an eye, but what does that really solve. Violence just begets violence. Like Miss Beth and Susan have been trying to say ... there are other constructive ways to deal with what has happened. Hate letters will just be ignored, if you talk to someone in a calm, ADULT manner, it will get more attention, than if you went in there talking like the thugs these girls showed they are. Just like any problem out there today, if you feel it's wrong, change it. We can change the world one person at a time.
In short, don't blame anyone but the people who committed the act, an eye for an eye isn't the right way to go about it, and do something constructive about it, if it bothers you so much.
ME, I'M OUTRAGED THAT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN MY 16 OR 13 YEAR OLD.
My daughter has a newborn who will be raised in this crazy messed up world. Let's try to make it better for the future generations. If we start now we might make a difference.

Im guessing many comenters on this site are older than 30, regardless, elders have no idea what its like becoming a teenager in modern society, so who are they (YOU) to judge anyone...However i agree it cannot go unpunished, lets just use some discretion and look more at the roots of the problem which are embeded in todays society controlled by the elders i might add P.S. im 18

I want you to do something.
Imagine this happening to your own mother or someone you love. Her face so badly beaten you do not recognize her, her eyesight and
hearing damaged.
Now imagine finding out that the people
who did this did it so they could post the beating on YouTube so others could watch it.
This shocked people for a reason.
It was a shocking crime.
Most of us are just fed up with all the violence in this country. According to you chilling out is the solution unless this had happened to you or your own flesh and blood.
This is a wake up call and we need to figure out what is happening in our country.
Putting our heads in the sand like you want to do is not the solution. Denial never helped anyone.

I wonder if Sean can feel as he does if that's not a wake up call. After reading his comments asking, don't we remember ever being young and doing dumb things it's just scary. There must be a feeling as long as it's someone else who cares, don't get all worked up over it. I want us to care. It is not caring that keeps us from working on figuring out a resolution to the crime that is happening.

No problem Darlene--I've addressed above what, in my opinion, has led up to this kind of "take it for granted" violence. It's not a simple answer and it took several things together to get us where we are. It will be just as complex to get us back to a sane, normal society.
Lot of hard work ahead of us, that's for sure.

More than a century of women's suffrage and liberalization in America and this is what it amounts to, women beating women. The women of the past who had coerced men to provide those freedoms were not ready for them, and they are still not. The constitutional provision that allows women the right to vote should be repealed. Women should be subordinate to and placed under the strict supervision of adult men.

Wow...these girls wanted a hit on youtube.com, and instead they got one on CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, and all the local affiliates. Here's the problem...they wanted to get "poplular", and all of us have made them that. Granted, they are not youtube famous, but they will always be remembered as the ones who brought about some serious legislation. They will be vilified, justifiably, but they will always be remembered. I am a news junkie, and I love to listen to NPR, and I read the news everyday. However, this video never should have been released to the media. These people have accomplished their goal. They've gotten their 15 minutes of fame, and now by all of us obsessing about it, we have participated in their crime.
I'm glad that they are being tried as adults, they deserve it, but we never should have heard about this outside of the state where it took place. Now, how long do you think it'll be until some other group does something similar? How long do you think it'll be until this is a required rite of passage in some po-dunk town, or suburban village? Getting it posted...getting a big rating...it equates to the same thing. I've watched some sick things on youtube, and I absolutley refuse to get a myspace page. I refuse to use myspace specifically because of situations like the little quips that started this whole mess.
These social networking sites were originally desiged for ADULTS by colleges and places of higher learning/employers/think tanks, not for a bunch of stupid high school kids. Yeah, I've been out of high school for 13 years, but thank god. High School is NOT the end all be all of our existence. Bullies are everywhere, and there's only one way to stop them. IGNORE THEM. We've perpetuated the cycle here, and we're all to blame. (Even me, because I took the time to read the posts, and post my own reply).

these girls dont deserve prison. it's too kind.
they dont even deserve psychiatric help. they can't be helped.
they deserve psychological torture. to the point where they forget who they are. it's the only thing that'll teach them a lesson. tying them up and ripping off their limbs wouldn't have an effect on them either, they'd still think they were right, and death would be too nice a punishment. they should become mental test subjects, so they can endure the worst mental pain a person could have. then, once they WANT to die, once they're so suicidal that they're running their own heads into walls, tie them up and throw them into prison. THAT'S punishment, albeit still a little light for the kind of criminals they are.

It's scary to think that this can happen in polk county. While I do admit that polk county is not the best place in the world, it's home. To learn that people can be cruel and thoughtless is just baffling. WHAT'S GOING ON IN PEOPLE'S HEAD THESE DAYS?This unbelievable event just shows us how society affects children and how parenting is the key to how children grow up. I'm only 17 and I just coulnd't imagine going to school with someone heartless enough to commit such an act. They all should be tried as adults. They were aware of their actions, since they recorded it. It is the just thing to do. Things are getting bad in highschools, this is just an example of how bad things can get. I can't believe the parents of the 8 kids who were involved in this. They kept saying that their kids were angels and they were good hearted kids and that it was a one on one fight. Oh please, get over yourselves. Honestly, all that the judge should say to the parents is.."watch the tape, then tell me your kids are good hearted and angels."
They should get the death penalty. i don't care how young they are. If they can do that to Victoria then they can handle anything right? The parents make me more sick than the kids do. i do find it funny though..the girls were laughing and having fun during the video...now infront of a judge...they coware with fear. Anyways..it is freaky that this can actually happen but i guess this country has to have immature people who freak out over nothing too.

I am 26 years old and have seen fights in high school before but never been involved but I am so shocked by this video, it brings tears to my eyes. This is not just any kind of a fight between 2 people. These kids are monsters. Yes, they are kids by age but not by action. I don't believe in violence but I do believe that if you hurt someone like that whether it is raping them, beating them up or any other torture they should tie you up and do the same thing to you to see how you feel. These girls are proud of what they did and I hope they go to jail for a very long time and get beat up in jail so they don't think they are tougher than anyone else. The parents of these kids should be ashamed of themselves not defending their kids for this cruel violence. If these kids go free or get a couple of years jail time they will learn absolutely nothing from this, you have to have absolutely no heart or feeling to do something like this to someone.
MARK, you are a fine example of how the parents of these kids must be like, thinking that there is nothing wrong with this. You should also be ashamed of yourself and don't have any kids if these are the things that is okay with you. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD AND WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE TO THINK THIS IS OKAY BEHAVIOR

18 year old Sean, I do remember what it was like being in high school but I don't remember anyone forcing me into doing something that I though was morally wrong. No matter how much pressure there is from your friends everyone has their own standards and if you believe that doing something is wrong then you would not do it unless you were held at gunpoint and you had no other choice. I have been pressured into getting in fights before but but I would rather not have any friends than have friends like this. Friends that do this to another person will do the same thing to you some other day if you cross them.

I heard that one of these perpetrators posted bail

none of these perpetrators should be able to post bail. If I were the victim I would go into hiding. I wouldn't feel safe if these people were out of jail so soon after this happened.

Wow, All those girls need to go to fucking jail and get beat up horribly. Nobody cares. It's obvious those bitches are inhuman because they seem to show absolutely no remorse to what they done. Reports of them laughing even when in trial. Especially Mercedes, that foul mouthed gorilla faced whore deserves nothing more then suffering. Actually all of them deserve life imprisonment.

Well, they got famous.
Congratulations, girls, thousands of people saw your video, more than you ever probably expected, and they're disgusted by it! Your criminal records (and the guilt, once it sets in) will follow you around for the rest of your life.
You know, it confuses me that so many people are like, "BLAME THE INTERNET!" Yes, people, let's sue the whole internet for making our kids commit violent acts!
Honestly.
I spend plenty of time in online communities and I'd never do something like this because my family taught me some damn common sense. NOTHING you can post on MySpace warrants a six-vs.-one beatdown. Not if you're a rational, intelligent human. "Le gasp, societal pressures!" and "Boo hoooo, meanies on the internets!" are no excuse.
Best wishes for Victoria and her family.

every single one of those little bitches involved should face adult charges and be punished to the maximum. i dont care if the youngest is 14, they should have more descency and common knowledge knowing that if you post something on the internet your gunna get caught, obviously not the smartest thing they could have done. i know if that was my child i would sue every single one of their families for everything they had. how could someone do something so inhumane to another class mate . i hope they all rot in jail and get there asses beat! and for the 2 guys who were also involved, need to be charged with assesory and be let off with nothing less then jail time. and just wait you girls think that you are all so big and tough just wait until you mouth off to another girl in there and she beats the hell out of you like you did that poor defenseless girl. my prayers go out to the lindsay family and its horrible how girls can be so terrible to one another.

I did some harmless dumb revenge things when i was their age, but never, ever anything like this. They should be tried as adults, all of them, and that guy thats 18 too. Hes supposed to be an "ADULT". Theswe girls have ruined thier lives. But they deserve it. And I cannot belive Dr. Phil bailed them out!!! Horrible! "To get an exclusive..."

Victoria is home with her parents. I believe if I am not mistaken, she was home the day of or after the beating. And it is said that Dr. Phil is just as outraged about his producers/staff bailing out Mercedes. He reemed them out and told them he would not do the exclusive on Mercedes. Not sure how much of it is true.
As for the girls I think they should still be sitting behind bars. What they did was wrong and preplanned. And soon the copycats will follow, because they all got out on bail. TO me them getting out is like telling them... go home till we can give you the slap on the wrist later. Because that is what is going to happen, we all see it coming and that is what we are afraid of.

I have a teenage daughter who is graduating this year so I know what things are like with teenagers these days. Girls can be mean and spiteful and get their feelings hurt easily but I've never known or seen anything quite like this.
My daughter is not a cheerleader nor is she with the most popular crowd but she could be if she chose to. I'm proud that her friends mean so much to her.
Where in the world were those kids' parents? I thought cheerleaders were taught to be a team and to stand up for each other.... if my daughter were one of the abusers - I'd be ashamed and apologetic.... I haven't heard or seen this kind of behavior from any of their parents.... I guess the kids get their sense of entitlement from their parents.

Parents need to do what’s right regardless of the consequences!
The first thing I would like to say is if I were this girl
’s father I would be taking care of this personally. Unfortunately we know that she wasn’t even living at home at her age which obviously means there are many underlying problems with her.
As far as the pack mentality goes, it
’s a completely different generation with young girls today. Everyone is obsessed with their 15 minutes of fame. Young girls are taught to use their sex more than their brains. It’s celebrated and glorified in everything from movies to the girls gone wild videos. American society dictates that if girls don’t act like the in crowd, and they are outcasts and targeted for criticism. As far as this goes, girls have always been much more vicious gossip, rumor control.
As for the boys, one boy
’s brother interrupted an interview with one of the mothers. He was a real class act. Strutting around in the yard demanding the cameraman turn off the camera and the interview be stopped immediately because of the “gag order” is the dumb Shit doesn’t even know what a gag order is. Running around in the neighborhood with his “wife beater” undershirt on lipping off to adults about something that he knew nothing about. Once again as a father I would be paying a visit to this family’s house as well.
Dr. Phil bailing out the ringleader that was seen during the beating. Dr. Phil needs to have his ass kicked. Of course we all know that he is one of the biggest pussy
’s walking. He will blame this on his staff stating that he had no knowledge of it whatsoever. If he had any conscience whatsoever, he would seek out Victoria Lindsay and her family and give them counseling.
All of these girls are little FSOA
’s (future strippers of America)and will be the trailer park trash of their generation. As for little Britney Hardcastle and the rest of these little Smart ass disrespectful little imbreads, how dare they think that they can sit in the courtroom and snicker and laugh at the judge. I certainly hope that he will throw the book at them. This isn’t something that just happens in one rural area of a certain part of the country. It’s an epidemic which is plagued our country. You can’t go anywhere without having some smart ass teenager looking at you as though you owe them something, and then you hear them talking about “it’s all about respect”. If you want respect, I have brothers in arms that are in the mountains of Afghanistan, and in the streets of Baghdad. Pick up a fucking weapon and show us how much discipline you really have. You see, if these young men and women in the Armed Forces with those little ranger tabs, those tiny little jump wings, air assault wings and marksmanship awards who are the ones who deserve our respect. The ones that put on a uniform every day. It’s the teenage boys and girls but spending or after hours in martial arts gyms learning how to quickly dispatch and put out of their misery little brats like Britney Hardcastle and the “wife beater Brothers”. The ones that have the discipline to put on a belt every day, the ones that go out of their way to help someone weaker than them, not to show the world the ultimate act of cowardice has six young ladies and two young men coax a friend into their home and take turns tag teaming her.
Our country panics every time someone gets punched. The rest of the world laughs at us because while there is a resolve around the rest of the world that you take care of your own business. Only here in America do we put it on the news and then talk about how horrific it is. The beating which was shown on television honestly was not that bad. The person throwing punches didn
’t even know how to punch. The true damage came from psychological torture. Victoria Lindsay simply did not want a confrontation and it was obvious. It’s human nature that any human being will develop a pack mentality and will feed off of weakness. All animals do it. Walk by a dog that you are unfamiliar with and act like you’re unsure and see what happens. Walk by the same dog with the attitude that you are the alpha male and the dog will know their place in the pack. Human beings are the ultimate dogs. They will go after and capitalize on any weakness they get the chance to. Victoria did receive injuries from what I and to understand from being thrown against the wall, possibly a concussion as well as a knot over the eye. This is definitely abuse, and unfortunately there was no way that she could really fight back other than to just simply unload on little princess Brittney Hardcastle.
Anyway, I own a gym in Honolulu, Hawaii and I have about 50 teenage girls and younger that would be more than happy to let Britney try to pull that shit with them. In fact I would even bet my own 12-year-old daughter against her. The snotty little bitch would get her ass handed to her in a minute. As for the parents of these little bitches (the boys included are also bitches in my definition) you should be ashamed of yourselves. But we always say this after some sort of a tragedy in our country. Look at Columbine. Everyone asked “where were the parents?” but that’s okay, keep letting everyone take the religion and the discipline and the teacher’s rights to instill order in the classroom away from us. Because we know that each of these little bitches surely must have some sort of a mental disorder which has not yet been diagnosed, and this was truly the cause of all the trauma. I hope Victoria Lindsay’s father gets this, and I hope that he will take it upon himself and possibly some close biker friends and go take care of this problem once and for all. And then bring his daughter home and remind her that she is the daughter and not an adult! Is it about time our country begins to take back our own lives, handle our own business and protect our families?

For all those calling for death and saying it's justice, get real and grow up. This is not shari'a law and "justice" does not call for death for a beat down, no matter how heinous. That is called vigilante-ism and is not appropriate. They deserve prison, yes. They deserve to feel the consequences of their actions as adults. Yes. Get off the calls for death.

Cathy before you even think of trying to take me on, you better get to know me first. Let's say your child is in a fight at school, and your child is the instigator. Would death be appropriate for your child then? No. Of course not.
Capital punishment is something which needs to be applied in a very careful manner, under very carefully defined circumstances, after all facts, DNA testing, etc. are done and verified. It's not something to indulge in emotionally or lightly and even calling for the death penalty shows you're not capable of discussing this issue in a rational manner.
It is, as I stated before, the mark of a vigilante rather than someone who loves justice and wants justice done.
Apply your attitude to your own child before you decide the fate of other children in a blind, emotional manner.

Your ignorance of law and justice are glaringly apparent.
Could have killed? Yes. Did they? No. Capital punishment only applies to certain cases. Learn your law. The law does not deal with could haves--but actualities. Further, capital punishment is generally applied to pre-meditated murder, as in the case of serial murderers and those committing murder in particularly heinous ways, not manslaughter. They did not plan to kill her; they planned to beat her. You may not like the distinction, but it's the way it is and no amount of emotional rhetoric on your part will change that. I never said they don't deserve punishment at an adult level and that is indeed how they have been charged at their initial appearances. Their parents also deserve to be sued into bankruptcy for neglecting to raise their children properly.
By the way, you're on warning--get your head out of your ass and your attitude cleaned up. Come back when you can discuss things as a mature, rational adult instead of a spoiled child full of blood lust. Or should I say a member of a mob looking for blood to satiate something sick and twisted inside yourself. Obviously, you're not capable of putting yourself on the other side of the issue.
Continued calls for death, escalating in stridency, are neither approved nor appreciated, particularly when they are made in the fashion in which you are making them. They also show you have a remarkable lack of logic when faced with facts and are relying solely on emotion rather than judiciousness. You are skirting dangerously close to committing a crime yourself, and we do retain identifying information for the authorities. Advocating death, and continuing to argue for it in this fashion is perilously close to the legal line.

4). You continue to call for the death penalty despite being schooled in the rule of law and continue to espouse vigilante-ism. That is not acceptable.
5). You were told not to post until you could post as a rational, mature adult. You have not done so.
Until you grow up, follow the rules and face reality, your posts will be deleted. I told you you better learn who you are dealing with before you attempt to take me on. Maybe next time you'll listen. To be honest, they do not deserve a death sentence. What those bullies who beat that innocent (and formerly hot) girl deserve is to be sent to a MEN's jail. Yes, I said a man's jail where they would be raped, abused, and beaten everyday for a long time. That is a proper punishment, PAIN, not death.

What they deserve is time in jail for their premeditated actions. They did not kill her, nor did they intend to kill her. They intended to give her a beating to show her they weren't afraid of her. Too bad they chose to go 6 on 1. Was this fight fair...no not in a long run... would I want my daughters to be victims or the perpetrators no... but these girls do not deserve the death penalty, nor do they deserve "to have their asses raped or beat" I'm sorry rape is not the same as giving someone an ass whooping. Miss Beth and Susan are thinking logically and rationally, and I agree with their methods of thinking. Those girls acted poorly but they do not deserve vigilante justice.

I say a long prison sentence and felony record should be punishment enough. That will destroy any chance these kids have in the future.
Remember these aren't kids from the hood, they are suburban brats. Their Mommies and Daddies gave them everything handed on a silver-platter. Now Mommy and Daddy will have to visit their little darlings in prison. At least the parents will be able to do what they want with their scholarship funds. No college in the future for them.

Mother of 3, I was re-reading some of the earlier comments. I also have 3--a 26 yo pregnant with her 4th, a 16yo son and a 13 yo daughter. The two younger ones are being transferred at the end of the school year to a stricter school because the once great charter they were in is falling into the nonsense. They're coming home with attitudes from their friends--and I plan on nipping it in the bud. Parents have got to stay vigilant with what's going on with their kids and it's never easy. I don't like seeing what they're going to inherit with this world, either.

Miss Beth you are right. But you are the exception these days, you are involved with your children. Today parents believe that good parenting is how many toys you give your child, not the time you spend with them. Today's kids are spoiled. They are handed gifts for the simplest of things, they have no sense of moral direction because their parents didn't give them any. The parents are concerned with their own lives to be involved with their kids.
Thus we have a whole generation who would rather scream GIVE ME! I WANT IT! than do without. They want the fancy house, fancy car, fancy job without really earning them.
God help America. These kids will never grow up and one day will have kids of their own.

Iam just disgusted by the acts of these 6 girls. I also read the article in People magazine, and the one father speaks of his daughter not being able to sleep her first 2 nights in jail, and that he thought it was too harsh for her! WHAT!? Has he even though about the victim and the sleepless nights Iam sure she has had since this vicious attack?
All over something that was written on Myspace? They do not understand that is part of being a teenager? Iam almost certain that, the abusers have done the same thing, if not worse. They all deserve the maximum penalty allowed, however Iam worried they will get off with the slap of the hand. Not to mention Iam sure they will become "stars in their own rights" they will undoubtly make a tremndous amount of money off their stories, once the gag order has been lifted. Iam just disgusted!!
And I pray these lost souls dont end up like the next Columbine, or what happend in Virgina..

THis story saddens, sickens and makes me angry! Ive been trying to follow this story closely. Ive read everything on the internet I could and read the article in People magazine. First, how can anyone blame youtube, myspace or the internet for what these girls have done? They are at an age they know right from wrong, hello, it was premediated! Tori (the victim) was having family problems and staying with Mercedes at the time of the attack, she lured her to the home knowing what was going to happen.
I was glad to read that they are all being tried as adults, and I do hope they recieve the maximum penalty allowed by law. In People magazine, one of the fathers says his daughter couldnt sleep the first 2 nights in jail, that it was too harsh of a penalty for his "sweet 16 yr. old daughter". Hello, SWEET?! I think not! Does he think the victim is not having trouble sleeping?!
Iam sure she will have aftereffects for a long period of time! His daughter along with all the others should have tought about the consequences beforehand.
However, Iam afraid that they will get off with a slap on the wrist, not to mention they will become "stars in their own rights" and make a tremendous amount of money for their story, once the gag order is lifted.
May these girls and their lookouts receive many long happy miserable years in prison where they belong. In fact I think they should be put in the same prison that the victims mother ( she is currently incarcrated and serving a 10 year sentance for fattaly stabbing someone) is.

My daughter went through something pretty terrible at the hands of other kids, but nothing like this. If I were this little girls parents I would want them to be tried as adults and put away for as long as possible. What has happened to our world, that kids are wanting to hurt another like this? They could have killed her. I believe this is the most cruel thing I have ever seen.

Kids have been cruel to each other for centuries. It's amazing the cruel things children can inflict on each other or just other children. These are the makings of antisocial personalities, or psychosocial personalities to be general. They don't care about anyone but themselves and their happiness or what they can get out of it. I'm sorry to say this generation is getting worse and worse. And no I don't blame or criticize the WHOLE generation. There are some very well behaved, well mannered children out there. They are just very few. As for this group... the "sweet" girls and "innocent" boys, well I think their parents need a wake up call before their little angels become antisocial and start gunning down whoever they feel did them wrong. But Margie is probably right... they may get off with just a slap on the hands. which is totally messed up and just really wrong. If the courts don't teach them a lesson they certainly aren't going to get one from their parents. UGH!!! this case makes me frustrated. And I'm a Human Service Major. Children like these will probably end up being clients of mine.

The girls should definently be tried as adults. They are giving examples of hatred to other teenagers across the US. They need to get payback. Carma's terrible and it's about time they learn the full meaning of that. Send them off and give the victim a break. The poor girl didn't deserve this and the girls that think they are so "bad" because of this video need to get a life. Then enjoy it in jail with the women who really are "bad". let them get a taste of what they are dishing out and have 6 girls beat them up individually.

Reading the amount of compassion expressed here gives me hope.
I will never forget meeting a man who spoke of murdering a 12 and 14 year old. He said he along with his platoon had raped them for days and that when they were all used up they killed them. I asked him if there were others and he said he couldn't count the number of young girls in all but those two stood out in his mind because they were sisters. I asked him how someone could gang rape and murder children? He started calling me a bitch and said what he did wasn't wrong because it was in war, Viet Nam.
I think when someone does something
bad it changes who they are inside. This guy was
scary. You could feel there was something evil in him...

Yes, I hope he is the minority. I mentioned to him about Polly Klaas. I said that she was 12. I told him I prayed every day that they would find her alive. They did find her but not alive. I said her murderer and rapist is on death row. What's the difference? He started yelling that they did nothing wrong. It was chilling. They threw those little girls away like garbage after they were done with them.

I read this post occasionally and just want to say that as mad and upset as I am over what these girls (and guys) did, I am even more concerned when I hear people spewing off about putting these girls in prison to be beat and raped and suggesting that the death penalty is not even good enough for them.
I think these young people have probably figured out by now that what they did was wrong. Unfortunately, it's a little too late for that and they will (hopefully) get the punishment they "deserve" - whatever that is. Our civilized society as we know it can only be civilized if we continue to act with responsibility and respect for each other. These girls have not learned and it's probably a certainty that there are many, many, many more out there who are just as bad if not worse. I just hope they remain the minority.

Not only should all these Kids be charged as Adult, I think for those Parents who know of their Childs Voilent past should also be brought in and Serve some Community Serves. So they will have time to think about Being Parents and not there Child's best Friend.

I agree they should all be punished, and those who were more active should definitely be punished severely. I am a college freshmen, and this is just unimaginable to me. I am astounded at the steps these girl went through to torture Ms. Lindsay. Now I don't personally know any of these girls, but from what I here on these news. Some of them just seem to be there and they weren't hurting (or helping), her so I am curious to know what will happen to those few. I am also curious to know how the boys actually got dragged into it. I don't think they actually had any beef with the girl. It just all puzzles me. I was reading how their classmates reacted and I guess they were all surprised, though a few did mention that Hardcastle and Cooper were bullies, and that a few of them had priors. I try to imagine if that were my friends, and I just have no clue to react.

Like most people here, I agree. Those girls are nothing but a pack of animals. So one of the girl's mother thinks that her daughter was justified in beating up that girl over what.... a comment she didn't like? What the hell are those parents teaching those girls...when someone says something you don't like...kick the crap out of them...the parents of those girls are just as bad as the girls who attacked that poor girl. What goes around comes around and their bad evil actions will come back to bite them in the backside in some form or another. Some would say that they deserve to have the crap beaten out of them too but I disagree...all they need is 20 years hard time in jail..time enough to think how their few minutes of fame led to the end of their freedom. As parents in this internet age, we so need to be mindful of what they are doing on the internet....we have one simple rule in our house..."where you click, we click". We have banned MySpace in particular and we have the internet capable computer in the living room so we see what they are doing at all times. And at night we lock the computer so that they can't be sneaky. Some might call us controlling but I call it keeping my kids safe.
My best wishes go out to that poor girl and her family and we are praying that she gets her life back and does ok.

As a parent of Grown Children now,..I too get Thank alot by my Kids for being a parent who was into everything my kids were doing,..I listen in to phone calls,...did room checks, read notes from other kids that I found in back backs,..Thier Friend had to of been driving over a year before I let them get in a car with them,..they couldn't have friends in the car until they drove a year. They had to make there own money to buy the clothes they wanted to wear that I didn't approve of. My kids had to be involved with an after school activity.
When one of my youngest was 13 and got caught stealing,(Less then 10.00) the cops didn't take him in, saying to me "he really is a good kid he just made a mistake in his thinking",...BY GOD, I got that kid home and made him take everything out of his room, and all the posters he worked hard to get, let him keep his bed, took the door off, and made him sit in his room after school for 3 months, only coming out to eat, do some yard work and make one 15 minute phone call a day.
Now he is getting done with his 4 years of college and doing great,..
My point is as Parents we must take control of our own CHILDREN,..They have enough friends,..They sure don't need any more,..There is so much danger out there now that our younger kids can get involved with, and as parents, we have to get our hands dirty and jump in and be involved with thier everyday life. You may be hated now,..but when your Kids grow up they will thank you for it, And there is no feeling in the world that can explain the feeling you get when you see Your grown Kids respect others and treat them like Humansbeings. I know it makes me proud.

As far as I am concerned - if I were the father of the girl that was brutally beaten - I would take matters into my own hands and retrobution would be swift, violent and final - and I would do the jail time taht would result from my actions. They would be lucky to get life in jail as they would not want to have me deal with them.

Wake up, America! Since when did meeting violence with violence make anybody a better person? Let's take a look at society and their parents and start with the roots. Where there is so much hatred, you will most likely find a lot of pain.
These girls should spend time living and being of service at a monastary, where they meditate, work and learn about compassion. THAT would make them better people, not getting beat up in jail.
I invite you to think of somebody in your family, your community, the world who has done something that seems unforgivable to you and open your heart and find compassion to forgive.

God is sending a message to all of us out there whether we are in the internet or not at all. Its pretty serious stuff that for you to become famous you would do what? create something stupid like doing felony or a crime. The society has its own boundaries even if you think in the internet you might be anonymous to some but frankly if you commit a crime you must pay co'z no one is above the law. If you think you can get away with crimes then you are in the wrong planet you might think you are living in a digital world, fantasy world, so virtual and yet it feel so real looks so real then you should hit yourself by all means by a bowling ball or baseball bat so you would know how it feels like to lose half of your eyesight and other senses. God is sending a message to all parents out there BE A PARENT TO YOUR KIDS THEY NEED YOUR LOVE AND UNDERTANDING OVERALL ITS MANAGEMENT. Heres the thing if you can not MANAGE YOURSELF AS A PARENT THEN HOW CAN YOU MANAGE YOUR KIDS?

I am finishing my degree in education and as a future teacher I am disgusted! It is disgusting that these children...who should be charged as adults..had the least amount of brains to commit such as violent act! As for their parents...I think they should be charged with child endangerment. What they did by not teaching their children the consequencs for their actions is the endangerment of OTHER children! I think these kids who commited this horrific crime should join Rachel's Challenge and Friends of Rachel...have them watch the Columbine Massacre; thats exactly what those girls did- but instead of killing and destroying many lives they have damaged this girl for the rest of her life! Shame on them and their parents!

Wow. I cannot believe this.
I am sixteen, and this video makes me cry. How can someone do that, and to show no remorse they deserve the worst. Poor girl, no matter what she did, she did NOT deserve anything remotely close to that. That is sick, and when i heard what they said to the police umm... wtf they are going to hell. That is sick, what has our world come to. how is the girl doing? any other updates?

These girls needs to be beaten up for 25-30 minutes just as the victim got. They need to experience what kind of pain they have done to the victim. Throw them into the jail or send them to the middle East and learn how to be women over there.
