I love the fact that Obama was caught on tape saying what many in the non-liberal camps have known about him for far too long - his policies are socialist and dangerous to our American way of life! What Obama said to Joe was exactly what he plans to do as President! It is sickening how the media and Obama camp has went after this man. They need to sweep their own back door steps before they sweep someone else's. As for Biden, how the hell could anyone live in his neighborhood since he lives on a compound!....If there is one bright light of Obama becoming president it is this--I will be entitled to money earned by P Diddy, Madona, Joy Berhart, Oprah, and etc...lol....you lie in the bed you make for yourself!...What a bunch of fools! Any American citizen has a right to ask a Presidential candidate what their plans for the country are. Joe could be Joe the paroled ax-murderer and still have the right to ask.

Redistributing wealth is socialist so says Sarah Palin? Well, then she is the Socialist. As a shareholder of oil companies I have a right to the profits they earn. That is the American way in a true capitalist sense. So who is she to call a windfall profit tax on these companies and redistribute the wealth of those companies and their shareholders to the people of Alaska? I have bills to pay, children to educate and I invested my money in oil companies because they were profitable, not because I wanted to line the pockets of Alaskans. She doesn't know what Socialism is. Not only did she skip that class in college. She never even signed up for the course.

Dearest Susan, I am a part owner of the Exxon Mobil. They pay me and millions of other stockholders dividends because we invested CAPITAL into the company. That's how business in our capitalistic country works. It was not Gov. Palin's money to give to anyone. The board of directors of the oil companies are obligated to answer to the shareholders. Gov. Palin chose to redistribute OUR PROFITS. The people of Alaska did not work to earn that money. They just simply live there and that doesn't give them the right to have the profits of a PRIVATE corporation.
Going to work everyday is not the only way people amass wealth in this country.
In fact it is almost impossible to get ahead on only a salary.

"Spread the wealth" is meant in a singular context of a broader set of policies. The misappropriation and fear of the word "socialism" proves that you have not bothered to listen to Obama's policies or even really understand the real meaning of the word.
I am mostly shocked, though, that McCain still has as much support as he does. Deregulation and tax benifits to corporations and the very wealthy is what is destroying the middle-class and taking our entire economy down with it. Think about it... Supply side economics, (e.g. Trickle Down or Reagonomics) makes as much sense as throwing the fertilizer at the top of the tree and pruning the roots.
Look around and ask yourself if you are really enjoying the benefits of these Republican Policies. You can't blame the current congress because George W. blocked pretty much any significant effort for change. It mystifies me that Republicans continue to shoot themselves in the foot by voting based on irrational fears.
Your definitions of socialism at the top of your article are not what Obama is advocating. What you call socialism, the rest of us Americans call common human decency.

It amazes me how uneducated the general public is when it comes to taxes and business. You're kidding yourselves if you think corporate America pays taxes. Consumers pay taxes. I have a better plan. Raise taxes on every single person that doesn't sell a good or service or create jobs regardless of their income level and lower taxes on companies. $10 jeans produced in an American factory are going to benefit us a lot more than a few extra tax dollars we have to fork over at the end of the year. Why do you think it is so much cheaper to import goods from China than to produce them here in America?
You guys don't know what you are talking about America adopted a mixed econonic system during the days of Franklin Roosevelt and since then has never been a capitalist model. If you want a pure capitalist model you would have to go to some of the developing economies like India, Kenya, and Hong Kong to name a few. They work pretty well in some areas- such as capital formation. However where some of the these purely capitalist economies lack is in the protections that were put in place in America after the depression-protections that we now enjoy in America such as FDIC insurance on bank deposits, social security for the elderly, SEC (the securities and exchange commission, which regulates stock exchanges in the US and prevents fraud), and other protections collectively referred to by Roosevelt as the new deal.
It is interesting to note that in today's recessionary climate President Bush went back to very similar policies and measures to get the economy back on track-1. Bailout of AIG, 2. Massive capital infusion into the financial markets 3. Government buyouts and consolidation of several very large US banks.

Furthermore, when Mccain was pressed to give his proposed policy, why did he even go further lest than Bush and Obama by suggesting that the federal government buy all of the markets distressed mortgages?
Finally, your definition of socialism was incomplete. The purist form of socialism is when the state has the right to ownership and the individual does not. Socialism is not the same as redistribution, as redistribution takes place every day in almost every type of economic model that you can name. Even taxation is a form of redistribution whereby wages and profits earned by individuals and businesses are distributed to the taxing gov't authority who then chooses where to distribute those taxes -please get your facts correct.
