Man I am naive. I never even considered they were going to our colleges and getting in-state tuition discounts. This whole illegal immigration thing doesn't make sense to me. Why aren't we kicking these criminals out when we find them? And if they are applying for college why aren't colleges contacting Immigration? Yeah I know that's a stupid question. Of course colleges wouldn't do that. And I can't stand the humanitarian reasons. What about the diseases being brought to our people because they aren't being tested as they would be if they came legally? What about the immigrants that jump through hoops to get into the country legally that are getting passed up? What about the Americans that are losing jobs to illegal immigrants? And don't tell me it's not happening, I know plenty of people affected by it. I'm just sick of it.

Toni,
The only reason we are not kicking them out is because the Dems count on their vote.

I hope this will be a real step and that it is enforced. Barring illegal immigrants from US taxpayer supported programs - like college - is one of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas. Higher education is an expensive, precious opportunity that we should guard jealously.

Sad day for North Carolinians. Yet this is a non sequitur in terms of slowing or affecting immigration in any way. Colleges as the reason for why there are so many undocumented immigrants in the U.S? Could advocates of this be that out of touch with reality? The number that are already in NC schools already should have been the first clue.

What part of ILLEGAL is so hard to understand? ILLEGALS should not BE able to enroll in colleges especially at out of state tuitions which cost the state 140% MORE than a a student that SHOULD be enrolled.

Susan, I completely agree. It annoys me to no end. How many news stories are there that call them migrant farm workers, or simply immigrants. And if you have a problem with this they label you a racist or anti-immigrant. I can't take it. The key word is ILLEGAL, but people want to leave that term out.

This is the first time I have read this site and it is called WAKE UP America. Well Wake up seriously think about what is going on yes I understand that this is using taxpayers money and it makes everybody mad. I totally agree! But lets think this through for a second maybe before we start shutting the doors to all illegal aliens we should think about what we are doing. Maybe only certain aliens should not be allowed if they do not have the credientials and dont pass a certain test. But people who really want to learn and be a part of this country I believe has just as much of a right to go to college as I do. What is this country founded on JFK says that "we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."... John F. Kennedy. Well I have been to Mexico and I live in a very diverse part of North Carolina and probably go to one of the most diverse high schools. I have seen where illegal aliens come from I understand why they want to come here to learn because to make it to college in other countries sometimes its really hard and they are lucky to make it out of middle and high school. And by us shutting the door are we not shutting out their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Should we not help them out maybe the problem is not illegal aliens in college maybe it is how to become legal. The process is so long and complicated and somewhat expensive and when you first come here as an illegal alien you do not have opportunites to become a citizen. I have many friends who work their butts off, go to school, and make just as good of grades as I do and they are illegal. Why should they be denied the right to an education I just cant believe it. Perhaps the problem is in Washington and they should find another way to make legalization faster. Just remeber this as you post things on this wall we all were once illegal aliens who came from another country is it not how this country formed. So you have had the right to life, libery, and the Pursuit of Happiness and once upon a time someone in your family was illegal. Maybe one of the best ways to fix this is to educate people and I truly believe this is what we should do.

Brittany, if you're considered a good student, your educational system is sadly lacking.
First, what part of the Constitution applies to NON-CITIZENS? It was not written for the world court, it was written for the Unites States.
You live in NC--great, wonderful. Get your starry eyed self down to where there are real ramifications to illegals. Like a border state. Right along the border. Then start educating yourself on some FACTS, such as 1/3 of all prisoners in the United States are illegals. 1 out of 3. Go talk to the border patrol agents who are getting shot, run over and imprisoned for doing their job--usually keeping drugs as well as illegals out.
Go talk to the hospitals and trauma centers that have closed because they've been bankrupted by illegals. Or the people who've been killed or injured by the illegal drunk drivers. How about the ones living on welfare, leaving no help for legal citizens? How about the people murdered by illegals? The children raped by them (you'd have to understand criminal justice statistics for those demographics). How about the domestic violence victims?
If it's so hard to get into college in their own countries, why should we make it easier for them to take a legal citizens place instead of them having to work harder to get into their own? Huh? Why, Brittany? JFK was not talking to Mexico--he was talking to AMERICA as in the UNITED STATES OF.
If the illegals don't make it out of middle and high school, why is that our problem? What about our drop out rate here? Why is the illegals education levels more important than our own citizens?
There is a REASON becoming legal is difficult. It's not MEANT to be easy and only those who truly want to be citizens will go through the process--the ones who love this country and want to be Americans, not the haters like La Raza, Mecha and Aztlan.
They have just as much right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as we do--and they have that right in their own country. If you're first act in coming into this country is illegal, why should we let you stay? You're a criminal!
As to your friends who are illegal, well they and their parents are criminals. That simple.
YOU wake up Brittany, to real life in the real world and not the starry eyed fantasy you'd like.

Also, she should know how to properly punctuate, paragraph, and many other simple rules of writing.
Nothing upsets one as a run on sentence, or, in this case, a run on screed of jibberish.

LOL TJ--to someone who deals with "words", that "paragraph" is an absolute "obamanation"! I don't let my boss get away with it, either (if I have to have twice yearly brush up classes for legal language, I'm not going to let one single motion out of my office that sucks grammatically!)

T.J. Today's children don't learn the rules of English. They learn to Text Message and poor grammar and call it English.
BTW: Text Messaging was invented in Israel. A byproduct of their military technology.

Katie you should see some of the text messages my son sends me--UGH! And that's just the 1/2 of it--here they're too busy pushing "diversity" and "special programs" on the kids to worry about English. I have to teach my children at home so they can at least speak properly, if not the King's English!

I can't take it. We can't just feel our way through life. Yes, Mexico is a mess. Yes, I understand why these people come here. Of course they come here. This is the greatest nation on the planet. That doesn't mean we just accept every person that comes from unfortunate circumstances. We cannot afford to do that. Our citizens will suffer. They already are, but it would be worse if we just say it's okay.

These children did not elect to come here and furthermore have not committed any crimes. The only thing they are liable for is “iilegal presence” which is not a crime—it is a CIVIL INFRACTION. Go read your laws again.
Also, once you are ‘illegally’ in the United States, there is no way to adjust your status to ‘legal’ (unless you have a 245-I) so stop blaming these students for not having proper status. It shows that you don’t have a clue about your own immigration laws, which is sad and pathetic.
Federal law requires that these students get K-12 education and there is nothing in fed. law that forbids them from getting higher education in the USA.
The fact of the matter is that some less than 140 students are not burdening tax payers; in fact they pay out of state tuition that more than covers their enrollment and makes a PROFIT for NC colleges.
There is no reason and no justification for denying students with merit higher education. Don
’t take your anger on illegal immigration out on students that had absolutely no say in this matter.

First of all James, I imagine I am not alone in asserting that it's clear the law is screwed up and needs to be changed and quite frankly the primary education of illegals is proof of that. We should not be allowing people to bring their kids here and get a free K-12 education that citizens of this country pay for.
Second of all as a 27 year old that just got a degree from a community college, I reject your notion that only "kids" are attending. The age of students attending community college is extremely diverse. You have no way of knowing that these students are just kids who were brought here against their will.
And here is the point - we have got to stop making it enticing for people to come into this country illegally. And saying, 'Hey, you and your kid are not going to have access to our colleges.' is one step. Another one would be to stop giving them primary education as well.
And you mention it is not the kids' fault that they are illegal. While I understand your argument, you need to understand one thing. It is not our fault that their parents came here illegally.
