This person was in an area being attacked by Hamas. He was not in an area being attacked by Israel. If you are only seeing one side of the problem one tends to have an incomplete picture which unfortunately results in very one sided.
Yes Israel is being attacked, they have the right to attack back. Yes Gaza is being attacked, they have the right to attack back. It gets circular pretty quickly. Hamas fires a rocket, Israel launches an air strike, rinse lather repeat.
The columnist also seems to have a bit of selective memory when it comes to reporting. Hamas rockets are reported just about as often as Israelly assassinations/strikes. Big offensives like this get more press yes, but they are much bigger then the background stuff so they make better news.
If Hamas ever launched an all out offensive where they invaded Israel with tanks and plans and heavy bombardment then I bet it would make days of headlines too.
Yes, I agree: both sides are right, and both sides are wrong. The Israeli government is terribly "me me me me me me" and doesn't seem to care about anyone but itself. It has just lost all its credibility it had left on this earth, except with arch-conservatives in America, and will probably get expelled from the U.N. This would be a good thing. Hamas and Hezbollah should face the same fate, and anyone supporting them as well. Anyone who is deluded enough to say "god told me this strip of land belongs to me" doesn't really deserve to rule anything. They probably need psychiatric treatment. Can't anyone lose a war gracefully anymore? I believe the Jews lost a war almost 2000 years ago for that strip of land, and they should just let it be. Should we also repatriate all Greek Orthodox persons to Istanbul and rename it Constantinople? No. The Greeks lost it to the Turks fair and square. Just because you want to manipulate history in the 1940s and kick out the then-current residents [Palestinians] doesn't mean you are going to get to keep that strip of land forever if you keep acting this way. Keep it up, Israel. You are losing thousands of friends around the world every second. The Jews were so badly treated by their arch-nemeses in Germany and Russia, that they are understandably bitter. *blink* Israel might have it's faults, comparing what they are doing to the Palestinians to Nazi methods is, at this stage in time, pretty far off.
One can draw some comparisons between early actions perhaps but those comparisons can be drawn pretty much anywhere. Use of moral outrage to justify a disproportional response is very common tactic.
But to compare Israel's current faults to Nazi Germany... that goes too far. If nothing else, Nazi Germany was trying to take over most of the world and exterminate several groups/races (the Jews were only one targeted group).. while Israel mostly just wants Arabs out of a specific area of land. Very, very different goals.
Genocide and disproportional response are not the same.

What I understand, from our guests, is that Hamas, can fire, non-targeted rockets, (Several thousand over several years), from land, given to the Palestinian people, in an effort of peace. And, Hamas, the good people they are, hide the weapons inside of schools. Am I right so far? And then, someone expects the recipients of these rockets to fire back with....what? This is the part that eludes me.
Excuse me if I am out of line, but, if I led Israel, I would tell the calm Pelstinians to get out. We are about to turn Hamas into dust. From where they came.
