So am I... but he had to start somewhere and these two steps have been huge, al-Qaeda retreating and 400 Mahdi Army militia detained. It is a good start but it is just that...a start.
I really wish people would have looked over the complete strategy instead of focusing only on the "surge" aspect, because although Bush certainly is a couple years LATE in deciding counterinsurgency was needed, at least he FINALLY did......and because everyone, Dems and Reps alike have grabbed on to the word "surge" and ignored everything else, people haven't really seen the differences in this strategy, which is OUR fault for not looking deeper and letting all the rhetoric from BOTH sides of the aisle get in the way of common sense.

THE SURGE ASPECT IS ACTUALLY THE SMALLEST PART OF THE PLAN.....

How will we ever know if victory can be achieved if the Iraqi government is tied to the Shiite militia, a political dilemma in Iraq that no increase in U.S. troops can solve.
Reports say that both the Mahdi Army and al-Qaeda are 'retreating' outside of Baghdad.
Although this looks like a promising event, in actuality, it may make Bush's more plan all the more difficult. If all of the 'bad guys' leave Baghdad, what good will the surge do? How will we capture the enemy? If violence decreases in Baghdad, will we be lulled into thinking that the plan is working, only to be attacked by al-Qaeda or the Mahdi Army when we least suspect it?
