Too bad we have left common sense out of all equations. School officials need to be held accountable for their nazi-like stupidity! This is nothing more than a lemming-like response to perceived woes that are being perpetrated in our country by those who would undermine what the USofA stands for!
A total outrage!!!

Highly educated, thinking, adult, teachers, terrorize 10 year old girl. If your so scared that you cannot rationalize the situation then maybe you should remove yourself from society instead of tormenting a 10 year old girl who will always carry this as an event that mentally damaged her. 10 year old kids should not have to deal with these things, grown ups should. Shame on the school and the teachers.

I agree. Zero tolerance rules are crinimally negligent. As in negligent in thinking intelligently and applying credible criteria to a crime being criminal. When I was in school, we had knives in the cafeteria. Back then we knew to cut food, you needed a knife.

Zero tolerance policies exist because public school administrators are idiots, incapable of applying reasonable judgement on a case-by-case basis.
That entire school boardshould be tarred, feathered and ridden out of the county on a rail.

The 16 yr old daughter of a friend of mine was arrested a few years back at school. She was an honor student, active in sports and a volunteer. She was going to an Ivy League college.
Her family moving and put some utensils on the floor of the back seat. Due to her car being broken down, she drove her mother's car to school the next day . One of the knives had fallen out of what ever they were using to move and was left, by accident, on the back floorboard where it was spotted by a teacher. She was promptly expelled from school. Fortunately for her, she had enough credits and was later "graduated" and was able to continue on to school, but what possible consequences could this have had on that child's life, and so many others like her?
I agree, Zero tolerance is for those too lazy to rationalize and separate destructive behavior and forces from those that are merely flukes.

Comment by Marilyn from email:
when my son was 5 yrs old,the 1 st day of kindergarten~I got a call from the principle, I rushed to school, thinking he had been hurt or something serious!! when I got there, they had him in the office~ scared to DEATH, his offense? he brought a little 1/4 inch trinket plastic gun, that he got out of a .25 cent vending machine!!! he was expelled for 3 days!!! it was about half the size of a dime!! my son did not want to go back to school after that! he was traumatized for a LONG time!! I think this sort of thing is Uncalled for~they go after kids like this~then when they get a kid with a REAL Problem, and a Potential Danger~ they turn their heads, and look the other way!! and do Nothing, until it is too late!

This is a result of what happens when one encounters an intellectual void.

Yes, and that's exactly what our politically correct, standardized test oriented public school systems have become, Snooper. An intellectual void. Nice term, I like that.
