The relationship I see between Slate and TNR:
Morons beget morons. Just like The Real General Patton stated:
"...We don't want yellow cowards in this Army. They should be killed off like rats. If not, they will go home after this war and breed more cowards. The brave men will breed more brave men. Kill off the Goddamned cowards and we will have a nation of brave men..."

Here's a copy of the letter I sent today by mail to TNR:
"August 9, 2007
Letter to the Editor
The New Republic
1331 H Street, NW Suite 700
Washington, DC 20005
Dear Editor,
In light of the revelations regarding Pvt. Beauchamp and his erroneous stories, I am demanding that you issue an apology to all your readers.
You have lied.
And since liars are generally not repentant, I’ll tell you what I’m going to do.
I
’m going to contact all the libraries in my state and ask that they stop any subscription to The New Republic.
What a horrible publication you publish. You have broken the public trust.
Sincerely"
I suggest others write similar letters to TNR's letter.

GOTTA love the man. The legend. The myth.
They don't make them like that any more.

Hawk...what do you think ReidCo and that genre of losers would do in the presence of a General Patton?

Hit enter too soon.
If he was in Petraus' place? They'd do everything they could to undermine him from across the globe.
That would be a safe enough distance, in their minds, to be away from him...

A true war story is never moral. It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behavior, nor restrain men from doing the things they have always done. If a story seems moral, do not believe it. If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if you feel that some small bit of rectitude has been salvaged from the larger waste, then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie. There is no rectitude whatsoever. There is no virtue. As a first rule of thumb, therefore, you can tell a true war story by its absolute and uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil. Listen to Rat Kiley. Cooze, he says. He does not say bitch. He certainly does not say woman, or girl, He says cooze. Then he spits and stares. He
’s nineteen years old—it’s too much for him—so he looks at you with those big gentle, killer eyes and says cooze, because his friend is dead, and because it’s so incredibly sad and true: she never wrote back.
You can tell a true war story if it embarrasses you. If you don
’t care for obscenity, you don’t care for the truth; if you don’t care for the truth, watch how you vote. Send guys to war, they come home talking dirty. --Tim O'Brien, The Things They Carried

The world is full of people who want to have bigger dicks. Some of them are PFCs, some of them aren't. If the average reader understood the years it takes to grow military leaders and realized that this young soldier has several layers of leadership overseeing his activities, they would understand why military observers question the veracity of the young lad. Nothing that a little maturity won't cure.

Snooper:
I was learning to fly attack helicopters when many of my contemporaries were burning their draft cards. It may seem presumptuous, but I have spent a lifetime going pretty much anywhere I could get to. Just remember, aim low, they may be riding shetlands.

Shetlands? LOLOLOL!!!
Colonel? I was one of those FEW that were seen on TV and written about during that time frame that went around slamming the HELL out of the draft card burners.
My brother was KIA in '68-Quan Tri.
It may not have been the proper thing to do but by GOD above, I am ready to begin anew.
this time, it will be the offspring of the hippies and yippies and yappies we now call moonbats.
Dissension is one thing but giving aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war is U.N.A.C.C.E.P.T.A.B.L.E.
