This should also dispell the left's cry that McCain also painted over the flag on the tail of his plane. Cries of it used to belong to US Airways is nothing more than a smokescreen since it was owned by Swift Air at the time it was chartered, who doesn't carry the flag on the tail of their aircraft, as does Northwest Airlines, the company Obama's was chartered from.
The "flag" that had been on the tail of Obama's plane wasn't really a standard flag: it was the airline's red white and blue stylized flag/corporate logo. When they took off the airline's identifying marks, the logo went with it, so they added a smaller standard flag on the fuselage.
And no, McCain's plane never had a fag on its tail. All it says, in great big letters, is "mccain.com" Now who's got the bigger ego? More of a tossup.
Given that he refuses to say the Pledge, wear a lapel pin or has an anti-American wife. This is par for the course.

Claiming Obama honors the flag due to the very small American Flag before the aircrafts registration number is just more smoke and mirrors. What goes unsaid is that aircraft registered in the United States and traveling to foreign lands are required to display the flag to identify the country of origin.
The Boeing 737 McCain is chartering isn't rated for international flight, hence no requirement to display a flag before the registration number.
As I understand it, the Boein 757 Obama chartered for his rock tour is now back in service with Northwest. What plane his campaign may use and what may appear on it remains to be seen.
Here is my Take and why I am concerned.
The Display of the flag on a registered Aircraft is a legal requirement,
but the display of the Flag in a more prominant and larger display may seem presumptuous or claiming more official capacity than the candidate really has other than their official government position (If any).
So say what you will to them both for that judgement in campaign marketing and spin.
But on the flipside, where McCain chose a solid color,
Obama chose a red, white and blue characture of the flag image on his tailfin.
Some patriots and US citizens might say in disrespect or threat to the flag.
Maybe the candidate should use the seal of their respective official post (I am sure there might be exception to that as well, since campaigning is not an official duty of an elected Government post).
Some patriots fear that the US public could be duped or swept up in his whole 'do-what?' rock-star campaign and the world might somehow follow Obama's new standard,
or that he is ego-maniacle and thinks that way, you be the judge.
I agree with Katie on her points about Obama's patriotism in his displayed behavior so far.
It seems counter-intutive to for Obama to now try and display a flag immage of any sort.

I still don't see why this is a issue. It's ridiculous to complain about someone not displaying the Flag on his plane. Do you guys truly care about this? It's like saying, "Oh, You don't know your School's theme song? You hate your school!!"

Real Patriots understand that the flag is nothing but thread and dye. The true America lies in its ideals and principals not in symbols nor monuments. Millions have fought for freedom, equality and justice not for a flag, or a national symbol but for the ideals that our nations founders wrote down in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. To reduce this great nations definition of Patriotism to a flag pin , banner or, tail art on a plane shows just how far we have regressed in understanding what it takes and means to be American. My Grandfather thought in WWII, My father in Vietnam and Myself in Desert Storm. None of us fought for a flag but all understood that we were fighting for freedom, simply waving a flag doesn't cut it it takes sacrifice to be a patriot.
Read your flag code folks. The airline that Obama chartered the plane from should never have used the flag in such a way in the first place. Obama is correct in removing it. Do we not have more important things to worry about?
Flag code really doesn't mean all that much since the Supreme Court ruled that desecration of it is a protected form of expression, now does it?
If it is a legally protected form of expression to desecrate it, why shouldn't we also express our love for it without fear of condemnation?
As for Obama, he is asking to be made the leader of the country the flag represents and the Commander in Chief of thosewho die under that flag protecting the country. Should he not express a little love and appreciation for it as well?

Poor George. We readily admit the "required" identification flag is present. The rub is the large flag on the tail was removed and replaced with the official Obama Seal of Approval.
When McCain chartered his plane from Swift Air, there was no flag, none required since it wasn't for international flights. If you had actually read the article anf visited the sites linked, you would see that McCain's plane does have a flag added to the fuselage.

i work at a car wash in the north part of georgia and i see plenty of idiots riding with their tires deflated lower than average and im always sure to tell them about inflating for lower gas consumptipn and thats something even mccain agrees with. Sometimes im also even courteous to tell the mccain sticker people about what mcain plans to do with social security and try to finish bush's job and do away with it while me and my kids pay close to 25% of our taxes on our paychecks which includes social security we'll most likely never see again under mccains presidency, but well see the $200,000 a yr people get 15-20% intaxes while working class families pay 25% no matter what.
Come back when you've educated yourself in reality and the tax structure, particularly the 86% living off the taxes paid by 14% of the population.
