Either GISS has data integrity problems or these are attempts to skew data. Hansen, Al Gore, Government money. I kind of hear a sucking sound coming out of Washington on that one.
Who can you trust for accurate unbiased data on which to make decisions and form an opinion? There are so many studies and warnings and more studies.
Americans are bombarded with information about the hole in the ozone and the role of hydrocarbons, the melting icecaps and glaciers, the plight of starving polar bears and disappearing sharks and whales, the dying off of the reefs, and other species being threatened.
And then you have a whole Global Warming “cottage industry” that has that has a vested interest in making everyone believe our climate problems are man made; seems like there is a lot of money to be made here.
While I do believe there are changes going on in our climate and that man may be contributing, I also believe that our climate has been and will be cyclical until the end of time.
I also do believe that there are threatened species now just like there have always been and efforts should be made to the extent that they can to save these species and their environments. I am sympathetic but realistic at the same time.
But.... when you find the authority organizations like the GISS making mistakes that further their cause, well, you open up a level of skepticism with the public.
I trust studies and scientist who are not getting money from the pockets of large corporations. I'm sorry, but very few large corporations have any financial interest in perpetrating a scam on the world. It is however, very much in their interests to confuse the science in the other direction. Nearly ALL credible scientists agree that climate change is man-made. Your heads are in the sand on this one guys. Even your candidate, Sen. McCain, agrees with the science on this. Tobacco companies funded their own studies until the health effects of smoking became undeniable and we've reached that point here with climate change. Fortunately no one is listening to you now. That's the truth, live with it.

Sept data inadvertently switched for October data? A mountain out of a mole hill. I'm surprised that anyone who is even semi-computer literate is at all surprised that computer programs sometimes contain bugs. Given the fuss, I fully expect warming deniers to throw away their PCs en mass since it is 100% certain some of the software they run contains bugs.

The earth was here without us for millions of years and there is evidence of cycles of warming and freezing (Snowball Earth) and warming again. For man to think that we are that influential that we can cause this warming...and then to think that we can stop it from warming by throwing money at inconsequential so-called fixes is the epitomy of arrogance. It also again shows that we are deluded into thinking of ourselves as the be all and the end all creatures of redemption. We did not construct nature...how can we possibly think that whatever we do can reconstruct it. That is so arrogant and ignorant. We couldn't stop Katrina...and that was a small localized miniscule event...! To think we can control warming or that we contribute to it is like saying we contributed to the ability of a butterfly to fly. We are not responsible for any of it...Nature and its irrefutable laws are!!! Just get on with enjoying life and liberty and leave nature to its courses.

Let me understand this.

Okay i think the main problem here is that people are misunderstanding the difference between weather and climate. Climate is a measure of weather in 20 year periods. So yes last year might have had a cold winter. (Weather) but global warming is being proven by the change in climate. In every single 20 year period the Earth's average temperature is increasing proving global warming. You can't just look outside one day, and say "It's snowing Global warming is false!" Yes we have seen large global climate changes in the past but thoses changes were caused by changes in the Earth's orbit in relation to the sun. This is currently not happening meaning the only possible explanation for our current climate change is it is anthropogenic. And yes most of the planet is made of carbon. CARBON not the greenhouse gas CO2
